This is a pretty amazing vehicle, I would love to see more pictures of it and know the details about the build, if possible. There are some very recognizable lines from a variety of automobiles, some of a 55 Chevy nomad possibly, the quality of the metal work to me says concept vehicle.
I really like these old invoices, we see them and think, "I'll take 10 of them at that price!" Just for grins I ran it through an inflation calculator: Shelby Mustang $5830.00 in '66 = $46,089.00 in 2019 dollars (close, but a little better than 2018 Shelby prices) 1966 Shelby to house cost was around 3:1 House (near Seattle) $17500.00 in '66 = $138,348.00 in 2019 dollars (but expect to pay around $700,000, in this crazy place) 2019 Shelby to house cost is around 14:1
Rootie, the first photo looks to be Bobby Unser around 1962 (?). Could this be at El Centro? And I think the other attached shot is of Eddie Sachs; maybe at Sacramento? Thanks as always!!!
Yes that's B.U. at El Centro circa 1962. I believe the shot of the midget pit area was taken somewhere in the PNW but I don't know where.
Wow, what a great pic from my youth of the Laurel Shopping Center. I've never seen that pic before. It looks to be 1958. Out of sight in the lower right corner is a Sinclair Station that sat on the corner of U.S. Rt 1 and Domer Ave. Domer Ave is the road seen in the pic. The station was run by "Pop" who always toted a Colt .45 six shooter on his right hip. To the right of the F.W. Woolworth sign is the "Hobby Shop" where we bought our AMT model cars. In the background beyond that section appears to be the old sanitorium. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, HEMIDAV!
I hope that cop is not too hard on the Beaver If I would have been the guy on Sunset Blvd. I would probably ran into the lamp post while checking out that chicks knockers
Ya..back in the 50's...did you know that he was driving a Corvair station wagon when he died , on January 13 1962 just short of his birthday of January 25 1919 , they say that the accident was possibly the result of him trying to light a cigar and losing control of the car. Apparently there's a photo that was released of the accident by a photographer that arrived just after the crash that shows Mr. Kovacs laying on the ground with his arm extended and a cigar inches from his finger tips. To be honest I didn't know who he was, I was born in June 1961. Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Ernie Kovacs started the Tonight Show... His humor was unbelievable. He was followed by Jack Parr, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno and some other guys. He was married to, I believe, Imogene Coca (sp?) and she had to complete the contract he had with Dutch Masters Cigars... Look that one up......those commercials were really funny for there time on TV.
Steve Allen was the first host on the Tonight Show, it started locally with his concept and after the first year it went national. I’ve seen reruns of the show with Allen and in fact I was a longtime viewer of Tonight until Jay Leno took the helm. Edie Adams was Kovac’s wife and the tag line for the cigar commercial was “Why don’t you pick one up and smoke it sometime?”
DING-DING-DING We have a winner! His wife Edie Adams was hot. She could never be confused with Imogene Coca. Imogene Coca, AKA Aunt Edna from National lampoon's Vacation with Chevy Chase.. BTW, the phrase "I kid you not" (then I shit you not) began on the Jack Parr's Tonight Show The Tonight Show went belly up. when Johnny Carson retired
