I feel like an 8" wide steel wheel would be way too wide looking for a period 1959 look. I don't think any 8" wide steel wheels were available until the Corvette rally wheels of 1968. If it's an axle width issue, I would add spacers so you can run a 6" or 6.5" wheel in the rear, otherwise I think the wheel width is going to look goofy. There's no way that the wheels on the car when it ran those Olds Fiesta caps were 8" wide.

  5. I measured the original rear wheels that came off my roadster last night at 7” wide. It was built in ‘58-‘59 so something was available. I haven’t quite figured out what their original application was just yet.

There was a Buick steel wheel available in the 50's that was very popular to use, typically just the outer rim with a Ford center added to it, since the Ford center would fit and it was the widest available steel wheel at the time. Considering that the car had an Olds rear in it with the same 5 on 5" pattern as the Buick, I would bet that's what was running under those Fiesta caps. I think the 7" rims you got are a much better choice than the 8" you were considering.

@Austinrod I found a pic that as soon as I saw it I thought design similarities...It's only as interest and it may have been in presence when Your new acquisition was doing the circuit...

@Austinrod did you get a Vanity/Personalized Plate or was that the previous owners and you transfered it. I like that your plates at least look like early 60s plates...Hows She coming along? Bet your darn busy...;)

Harley tailights period Details and they look damn good...I did see Fishtail Exhaust on a few oldies too...I think it could work...In a crazy funky way what would a fishtails look like on the side pipes...
Actually the side and aft fishtailed exhausts angled artistically...fishtails don't have to be Linear...Just thinking out loud...your focus is awesome...

Big sigh of relief. The wheels and tires look great! And are pretty doggon close to the original, even to my ultra-picky eyes. Do you have Fiesta's for it yet? If not, PM me.

It's just amazing what the right wheels and tires will do for a car!

And those are "right." Fiesta caps would look great too...

I will give it a whirl later on...what a neat Hotrod...

When I was working on that last image I noticed a hammer on weight on the rim...doesn't bother me but I thought about the ranting that goes on about them sometimes...maybe they were around way longer than I think...

The steering wheel in that overhead pic sure looks like a 55/56 Chevy 210 wheel, that would be a nice addition to the car as well, and an easy bolt-on in place of the musclecar wheel. (probably could sell the wheel that's on there to pay for the 210 wheel, they're not real pricey).

New wheels and tires look good. Temporary caps and wheelcover look nice but Fiestas and a painted steel cover with a chrome ring will be even better, I'm sure eventually you'll find those.

Do you think the car was turquoise when the overhead pic was taken? Could be, it's prior to the pinstriping on the spare cover. I'd really like to see a colorized version of that.
