Projects '37 Buick grille mod opinions

My Buick is slightly off topic so I quit posting but I don't think this question breaks any rules. The guy leading the build want to mod the grille opening and I need some comments/opinions on whetherto make the changes or stay with the status quo.

 

Didn't think that you could improve the looks of a '37 Buick grille but it looks like you can. Go for it.

I prefer the long thin original to the fabbed one.
It would be hard to change my mind on this one.

 

Are you keeping the grill inserts? If not, let me know what you want for them.

 

I saw your car at the swap meet display. I really didn't like the clayed up grille. Buick had it right why change such a classy grille? The clayed grille just diminishes things. Just because you can doesn't always mean you should.

 

If he just wants change from stock, someone photoshop the headlights 3" lower

 

Yes we would be keeping them but I have another spare grille I may let go after the build.

 

Looking at the mock up again it looks as if was a "make do" kind of thing as if you couldn't get the proper grille.

Stock grill, besides you probably need the most cooling you can get with that car. X2 on dropping the headlights.

 

i don't think i'll be changing them on my '37, but I do like the headlights dropped down a bit, almost lines up with the fender lights for a bit of a nice effect, though i prefer the grille in stock form

 

That is a consideration. I am going to be running a Hilborn injected 401 nailhead 0.030 over with 10:5 - 1 compression and I refuse to run electric fans.

FWIW, I would also lower the headlights.

 

The smaller grill makes the front of the hood/nose look bigger almost like a ‘37 Chrysler.

Hard to improve on the ‘37 Buick design, as well as reducing the opening would affect cooling.

 

Yeah stock 100% .

 

A point I didn't make is that the stock body lines and trim would be carried over. We plan to get rid of the "beak" ends on the hood and get rid of those gaps. Hood sides are going to be removable and the engine is dressed with satin polished Buick valve covers, spark plug covers. Aluminum oil pan and 6 inch chrome injector stacks and aluminum valley cover to match the valve covers.

 

Anything other then a stock 37 grill will look like shit.

 

Confused here...
-clay doesn't actually depict desired end result
-grille changed so hood shut line is continuous
-stock trim
-stock grille (a few bars shorter due to hood mod)
-and the stamped reveal lines will be retained

...seems like a minor change to me, not worth the staunchly negative comments!

I just 'shopped a random Buick photo based on the above description. Looks fine? Cleaner and more finished, albeit slightly heavier--like a '37 Oldsmobile (pictured below):

 

I like the stock grill bars best
