Here’s a few pics from the VHRA meet in Pendine, Wales UK IN 2019 Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I visited Pendine last month just to see what it looked like in person. It would have been great to be there when the event was going on as it is a beautiful place. Here is my cell phone photo. My guess is that the car event must be farther down the beach near the horizon in this photo.
We want more. That looks like one of those bucket list suggest to the significant other that "we" take a trip to England in June and spend that weekend in Wales bucket list things.
Yes the event starts a little way down the beach. The event has to coincide with the tidal movement and the Ministry of Defence as it is still used by the Army as a heavy artillery range! Used since the late 1920s for land speed record setting as when everything comes together the beach is perfectly flat and over seven miles straight. To us UK hot rodders - it’s our very own el Mirage or Bonneville a place where we can run ‘flat out’ - and we do Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
This is our club built 4 banger Streamliner and now Class winner and Record Holder. Re-worked, balanced and lightened Model A Four banger with twin Strombergs. Front sprung end is all model A with split bones and perch. Rear v8 banjo welded to frame rails and mated directly to gearbox with cut down torque tube. Model A drum brakes on the rear only. WW2 inspired ‘p47 Razorback’ canopy. Exhaust stubs are ww2 Supermarine Spitfire Like I said, this is a club built lakester and was a joy to drive/pilot!? Record now stands at 88mph until next year when we’ll go again. Cheers Duncan BCBillysCC Hopefully this pic gives you some idea of the vastness of this beach. As a club we have all run our hot rods on the beach over the last seven years, with 3 members in the 100mph club. We also have the youngest owner, builder and racer at Pendine too - who ran a Flathead modified this year - nice one Josh! The idea this year was to bring something different to the races - I think we achieved our goal! Till next year - see ya on the sand Sent from my iPhone using H.A.M.B.
Thanks again to all those posting pics and info regarding this spectacular event... It's much appreciated and it's a pleasure to witness so many vehicles sporting Bias Plys at a show it really helps give it that final vintage edge... Compliments to the participants and those Organizing and Hosting this historic throwback event...
I applaud this and it really helps cement the periods being celebrated...I am thankful they are still produced.
Thank you all for posting these. Any more information on the small supercharger set-up on that banger? 17th picture down.
Where do you guys get your cars from ,as most all seem to be LHD. Or are you allowed to build them LHD? Superb event by the looks.
Most of the cars come from the US, so are LHD. We have no issues with building LHD vehicles over here, and proper hot rods are LHD.
Thanks for the great pics and videos. Keep 'em coming! This event always looks like a heap of fun and all in a beautiful setting to boot. But somebody help me on the pronunciation of this beach. Is it "pen-deen" or "pen-dine"? Being a Blackburn I'd hate to think I was saying it wrong.
