  1. I've seen stick shift Edsels around. One was for sale locally, a '59 for around $8000. I would have jumped on it at $4000, very similar to my '59 Ford Custom 300.

  7. That is the one! Jim sold it at auction back to Ford Motor Co.

  8. I saw the huge banners of the car in Jims garage when we did the trade but was disjointed that he had already sold it before I got to see it, all in all it's probably back where it belongs. HRP

  9. You mean this? Yes it did go home, but not sure I could have sold it after all that work. Like Jim said " now what do I do with it" IMG_0246.JPG

A buddy's '58 Villager he impulse bought on ebay, that we flew out to Iowa for and trailered back to Massachusetts. Decent'ish body, needs rockers, rear floors and I've been plugging away on the fenders when I get free time. The 361 looked like someone had been dumping sea water into the valve covers and was completely locked up so it's getting a 460 and a c6 that should be coming home from the machine shop sometime in the next few weeks. His kids love it, his wife hates it, so its in the garage at my house

Tri-power, yes, the Lincoln and T-Bird columns/wheels are something I've considered. If I do a swap, I'm sure it will involve swapping the whole works as a unit, which is fine. 57/58 Mercs are out due to their own version of pushbutton gear selectors.
Will do some research, then look for a Lincoln or T-Bird parts car setup. I want to remove the fully functional TeleTouch setup from the Corsair fir use as spares for the Citation, and doing the conversion will make the Corsair more sellable when "done". I have a very nice 57 Turnpike Cruiser two door hardtop to restore to replicate the orchid one I let go years ago.
    Thanks for your input.

    Hello,

At the other end of the spectrum, Edsel Motors were used in drag racing from 1958. In 1959 when we were at the big Riverside Raceway Drag Meet, one of the local So Cal racers tried his best with his powerful Edsel Motor to knock off the Eastcoast invader during this meet.

Glen Ward was no stranger to drag racing and having been associated with all kinds of race cars, the stage was set for the East VS West race.

A lot of MEL motors were Mercury and Lincolns, but surprisingly, a few were Edsels.

Another MEL motor fed was the beautiful racecar of Tets Ishimaru. The Westcoast MEL (Lincoln) was well built, was plenty fast, as we saw at Lion’s Dragstrip, but on this day, had some difficulties in his race.

20221025_162529.jpg my 59 Canadian Ranger 2dr hardtop v8 (332) auto 3spd ps pb, factory town and country radio. Very rare 1 of 492 Canadian made 2dr hardtops. Trim code 90, nobody seems to know what that was. According to the vin it was one of the last ones off the line. Car was restored in 93, much of the mechanical has been rebuilt and interior done ( rolls and pleats). The car runs dual smittys. Overall nice cruiser.

I'll have some more to post. A once-famous collection in SE Pennsylvania. Now all are either gone to new homes or on to Edsel heaven.

It was a neat place to pack a lunch, roam around, and get lost.

  24. Don't want to be a downer, but I saw a "Today In History" blurb in my local newspaper that on today's date in 1959, Ford announced it was discontinuing the Edsel. A moment of silence, please.
