I have a bunch of Gunderman sponsored cars in an album. All are to new for this site. I'll see if Scott will send me some store pics. You know about his 50th year in business celebration at Indy ?

    The Streamline Moderne structure
“The Pan-Pacific Auditorium built by Clifford W. Henderson and his brother Phillip in the Fairfax District by Gilmore Field (now CBS Television City). The streamlined marvel, designed by Los Angeles architectural firm Wurdeman and Becket, opened at 7600 West Beverly Boulevard on May 18, 1935. The building sat at the southeast corner of Beverly and Fairfax Ave. and it had four stylized towers, each with their own flagpole.”

“Despite being added to the National Register of Historic Places., the venue was neglected and suffered damage during the years that followed 1972.”

    Hello,

Despite being young at the time, our dad always took us to the Pan Pacific Auditorium for the Motorama Car Shows. He liked the new cars and we liked the old hot rods. Those new cars were for dads and moms. The old custom cars and hot rods were for kids. The earliest one I can remember was in 1954, then 1955.

We were not the only little kids in attendance. My brother and I always pulled our mom over to the hot rods and customs. My dad wanted to go see the new GM cars for possible, future purchases.

Over the years before the destruction, the street Fairfax Ave. was a fun place to go. There were many hot rods and as usual, our 65 El Camino was parked on the road. Why? Well, Canter’s Restaurant, of course. It had history in our family as our dad loved the food there. It was completely different than the stuff we ate at home. Even my mom liked the Canter’s exquisite food.

During the hectic mid 60s revelry, this place was always packed with young teens and 20 somethings gabbing away while eating that great food. The local surrounding stores were also popular as the Canter’s Restaurant was the main draw.

    Jnaki

This whole area was called the La Brea/ Mid Wilshire/Fairfax area. It still is a popular draw today. The Pan Pacific is now a park with one iconic moderne structure still standing. But, those early Motorama shows were really eye openers for us little kids.
