Heard back from the doctors last week, in three weeks we'll be headed to Ann Arbor for my wife's brain tumor removal surgery. So keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

...and say a special prayer for me as my mother-in-law decided to fly in and stay the week with us.

She's had two other surgeries with in the past 5-6 years to remove some of her parathyroids, and to remove most of her pancreas, gal bladder, and spleen because of the tumors growing in them. This one will be quick and easy, and hopefully it will help fix a lot of problems.

I see where your going to split the wish bones. ..don't do it. I built a 48 Merc years ago with 302 w/C4. Dropped front axel , left the wish bones intact, just spaced the plate holding the ball down an inch for clearance. Car drove and handled beautifully. ...coarse I did have power steering. Put 7500 miles on it in two months with my wife and two kids.

Thanks but the deed has already been done. The front suspension is stock axle, i had the front spring flipped, and i'm using the dropped crossmember.

Didn't get as much work done as I wanted to this weekend. Finally managed to get the drain plug off and it looks like it's going to need a good cleaning. Got one of the springs lined up and ready to go. I just need to hike her ass end up high enough to drill the holes for the front bracket. Ladies and genitals...I present to you a rolling chassis. Went to AB spring last night got some u bolts and help with my spring bushing. Drilled out the spring seats and got everything mounted up. It's hard to tell but I think one of the brackets might be off by a cunt hair because the spring bolt doesn't quite line up IMG_20190704_094806586_HDR.jpeg IMG_20190704_094821943.jpeg

  17. I'm gonna bum you out.... You have the spring/shock plates mounted backwards; the shock studs have to point to the rear.

I used the same kit on my '47. One issue with it is the shocks have barely adequate travel, so you have to carefully measure suspension travel and select the right mounting position for the shocks so they don't bottom out yet still allow some rebound travel. This might be tough for you as you don't have full weight on the rear suspension. Hopefully you still have the factory frame snubbers in place, you need enough upward travel so those function. Using the shock as the compression limiter can result in broken shocks or shock mounts, which is why I had to replace mine.

You can 'adjust' the shock mounts by flipping the spring plates side-to-side and deciding which upper hole to use. I see your upper mounts already have a nut welded behind the lower mount position, you can add another nut to use the upper mount if needed.

I also discovered you have to leave both the top and bottom shock mounts loose to install the shocks; if the top ones are tight, you can't get them over the lower studs.

The instructions didn't really seem clear on that. I assumed since the shocks mounted to the front of the cross member that they pointed forward. The snubbers are still in place.
Which welded nut are you talking about?

  20. The crossmember is behind the rear axle, the shocks need to be there too.

You already have a nut welded inside the upper mounts for the shock stud to thread into. Mine came with the nuts loose, I had to select which hole to use and weld the nuts in myself. Actually, I got two more nuts and installed nuts behind both holes on each mount, giving me the option of using either hole.

IMO the shocks really need to have more travel, but I looked in vain for ones that offered more. The ones that are furnished aren't the best choice, they're the only choice. This kit is designed to fit 'most' cars while still leaving room for exhaust without major fabrication.

Going through my parts yesterday and realized I will probably have to hybrid the radiator support with the 41 frame mount, and the 47 rad support. I'm wondering how does the 41 Ford rad support mount to the frame?

Made some progress today. The axles are looking pretty crusty, the ring gear had some rust on it but the bearings faired pretty well IMG_20190728_191109411_HDR.jpeg IMG_20190728_191143796.jpeg

Got a quote to get new bearings and dialing in the ring gear in the third member. He quoted me $200-$250 for parts and labor. Is this a pretty good price or should j keep looking?

  25. A bearing kit for the rear end is about $100. There's 2 hours labor, anyways in doing what you're asking. Ask around, though, there may be some hobby guy(drag racer, etc) that may do it for cash.

So the diff gasket is on the way, the diff is rebuilt. I got flanges, bearings, seals and whatever those round things are, and some diff lube. I think I have everything IMG_20190918_185354135.jpeg

So I got the diff and everything back together. This car isn't going anywhere for a long time should I lift the back end up and turn the diff for a bit to get it oiled up?

You could to make sure the gears get some lube on them. As long as it's sealed up, no place other than the vent for moisture to get into it.

I have a friend of a friend who's selling a 351w HO 4 bbl for not a lot of money. I know their numbers weren't to impressive, but I'm not looking to have a crazy high power engine. Would this engine be something that can have a little fun with, easy mods etc...
