Nice choice of great light sport/racing cars: cyclecars-specials!
Blue Morgan should be well-known and the same b/w photo of GN Mowgly special...
It was always strange a little (for me) how some cyclecars as GN especially - weren't small at all, being quit long. Probably that they were very light in spite of that.

Aeroplane without wings: light-blue HELICA was craziest of all! What could go wrong: light torpedo-style body for two person in tandem, aircraft engine and propeller, rear-wheels steering with central-pivot axle...

Orange GN Touring is quite rare: early model with belt final transmission - cute!

ommissbrot is wonderful as all photos (sketches, too) of great artist and enthusiast Stefan Marjoram! Often, we could see a pair of them on classic cars gatherings. Maybe re-creations of so-called GP-Hanomag racers (modified form modest cabriolets or coupes)?


Would like to have any of them, or at least to see them in real!

Oddly, factory workers dressed like that back then.

 

There was an understated dress code back in those days. Even when at home men would wear suits and ties. The change to "casual" has gone far passed the norms and folks seem to think sloppy and disgusting are good. Bib overalls and a red flannel shirt have far more class than the normal dress of many of the younger folks today.

I see that the right hand stays pretty busy between throttle and shifter on a vintage Morgan 3W.

 

That is a highly modified Morgan that has a 4 speed gearbox and pedal throttle. I'd like to learn more about the gearbox. I think it is a sequential dog box inside the original Morgan case.

Saw this at the Kemptville car show on Sunday just south of Ottawa.

Seeing the airplanes around it makes me wonder if it isn't a "Funkmobile" from the Funk Brothers--same crowd that produced the V-8 conversions for Ford tractors in the late 1940s. Isn't that an Indian V-twin used for power?

Edit: Another clue. N920W, the plane in the background, is a Waco Cootie at the Waco Museum in Troy, Ohio. The Funk Brothers were from Akron, though they later moved to Kansas. It doesn't look like there's any kind of cyclecar in the museum today, but it would seem to confirm my initial suspicions.

 

In 1955 while in Japan as the guest of the U.S. Army, I had occasion to go to the races not far from Tokyo. The race course was about a half mile dirt oval and the program included individual events for motorcycles and one-off home-made race cars. Each event ran one lap and allowed pari-mutuel wagering by spectators. It was pretty wooly and in one race a motorcyclist was killed. What particularly interested me was one unusual entry which mated a 1000 cc English JAP to an American Jeep front-wheel drive. I don't recall how successful it was. I was interested to see that car because my Dad competed in midget racing in the Northeast in The Thirties with this same engine. Wish I had taken pictures.

Yes, it is at the WACO Museum.I guess I should not have been surprised to learn someone here knew what a WACO was or the anything about the museum itself.As for FUNK....there was a gent here who was able to collect a large amount of automotive iron from around Alaska and Yukon Territory. He was also an airplane pilot. So, his collecting wasn't limited to just early automotive "stuff". When the final cleanup was made an NOS Model A Ford engine surfaced that had been modified by FUNK.It now lives in a Model A pickup and runs rather well.These images are from the Experimental Aircraft Association Museum(https://www.eaa.org/eaa-museum) in Oshkosh ,Wisconsin of a Model A engine that has been modified for an aero application. I don't recall if it was FUNK or other....

 

Not to get too far off topic, but the Funk Brothers converted their Ford engines to run inverted. That looks perhaps more like a Pietenpol conversion.
