Canadian Rodders it's time to take a pause. 75 years ago today some of our finest offered all they had to help Europe regain its independence. A recent ad basically said that we can enjoy a day at the beach because of their day at the beach.

The Canadian troops faced extremely heavy opposition and still managed to advance further than any other group and was told to stop advancing to allow the others to catch up. Some died on the beaches some further inland. One fellow was captured and crucified. And then there was a group that surrendered only to be executed by the SS.

A few years back I took 50 students to visit historic military sites in Flanders and Normandy. About 5 or 6 of them, along with my son, stripped down to their underwear in mid April to experience the Atlantic at Juno at that time of year. Although they were a couple of months early they had a slightly better appreciation of what D-Day was like.

So take some time to reflect, as many of us can't remember, as to what these men/women did; not for national gain but for the betterment of others lives.

That invasion was a work of art for all countries that were involved. It a whole lot of planning to pull that off

We will never be able to repay these men for there sacrifices. This is why we must remember them.

Watching the coverage today especially the landing on the beaches brought tears to my eyes. Those young boys were and still are the "GREATEST GENERATION". Those brave young men never looked back and just continued to push on against overwhelming odds.

I just found out there is a living survivor of June 4th 1944 living in Yakima Washington. I will make it my duty to go there this summer just to shake his hand and thank him for his service. He is in France today for the anniversary of the invasion. At 96 he is still up and able to get around.

We owe so much to so many for their sacrifices over the years. If you know of a WW2 survivor please make contact and offer your heartfelt thanks for their service. Sadly nearly 300 WW2 vets are passing away every day. Find a vet and thank them before its to late.

    just sayin'
