Hot Rods Your truck, shop trucks all shapes and sizes

Next item on my plate is figuring out what I want for an all around shop truck. Hauling , towing and cool looking in the style department. So , please post up any of your own trucks as well as from the net. Trying to get idea , tipand tricks as well as pics.

 

This is a 55 Dodge we put together as a hauler and push truck has a 270 Hemi with a 3 speed. The 48 we did a while back with Chevrolet clip and running gear used it to push an altered at the reunion then sold it.

 

My first choice it my current truck project, though its off topic. Currently doing a 68 C10 into my all purpose truck. Though a 55-66 Chevy 1/2 ton would make a good shop truck.

 

If I had a shop & needed a shop truck it would be a 53-56 Effy.
Why?
Cuz they are beautiful!

 

Current shop truck is a short bus

 

The ever popular and now expensive 40 Ford is my first choice
But any panel truck from the 40's - 60's would be better, enclosed back to hide expensive product and a large signage area
And you can sleep in the back at swap meets,,, I know from experance

I have slept in the back of a pick up waiting for swap meet to open . When Dad would tow the dirt modified or late model to far away race we used to sleep in the pick up (with Canopy)

 

That's true. Pop a work bench and storage box in them and the way you go.

 

Sweet. I don't think those year Dodge's get the love they deserve.

 

A '55-'59 Chevy NAPCO. V8's, both big and small, bolt right in. I have a '59 36, with a backyard overhauled 402 in it. The 2wd versions are good also.

Wish I had a photo of Jack Passenger's shop truck that he drove for years. A spotless blue Chevy AD pickup with white partial side racks with his shop name on them. Probably the best looking AD Chevy truck in Central Wa in the 60's hands down.
I've always been of the school that your shop truck with your shop logo no matter what the shop was was a representation of the quality of work your shop turned out and if you drove a crappy looking truck you might do crappy work.

 

I am working on two for myself, the '40 will be for light duty, short, local use. The '53 COE has all of the comforts, along with a 14-1/2 ' Grumman aluminum box, to haul hot rods/race cars, secure and dry. For long distance runs, the plan is to carry a car inside and tow a travel trailer.

Looks like you'd do well to find yourself an AA frame!

Plans for mine are to make it a driver mostly but I've got designs on making a push bumper for the front and a T bar on the back of my car. I have some nice old real 2" x 4" lumber I salvaged from my shop when I opened up a doorway that's probably as old as my T.



I may put a plate on the frame to take a crane too. For me, that would be PERFECT for the kind of picking I tend to do. I got one of those "hitch crane" rigs I've used on my OT late model RAM but the boom on them is too short to be of a whole lot of use and I think it would look kinda cool in a hot rod wrecker vein.

 

Great ideas hambers. Let's see more of your trucks and projects. A vintage tow truck is another " I wish" but impractical for me lol.

I vote panel trucks or something weird like a Hudson or Willys.
