Thanks again to everyone that has complimented my 49 Plymouth Woody. I greatly appreciate the kind words.
Yesterday I jacked up the front of the car and removed the oil pan drain plug to let it drain out as much as possible.
I am going to drop the pan ASAP to clean it out.
I will update as I move ahead.

Just sold a DeSoto ribbed bumper this weekend at swap meet...Guess I lied when I told the customer that Plymouth didn't have a ribbed bumper....Never seen one on a Plymouth before..only DeSoto in my neck of the woods. Live and learn... She's a beauty !!

    2x on the
P15-D24 site lots of stuff there in the resources area. Takes a couple days to get to post but you can read forum and tech entries while waiting for approval. I believe 49 was the last year for wood bodies. Seen a couple of them done up real nice. Engines like good steady oil pressure, and revs kept under 3500. Brakes can be a pain in the butt, each front shoe has its own wheel cylinder and rears need a big puller to deal with a tapered fit to the axles. Aamco centering tool highly recommended for effective adjustments.

Where are you in Pa? There is an old gent out in western PA that is considered a guru on getting more performance out of your engine.

Thanks. I am already on the P15-D24 site.
I have received so much positive feedback on this car from this Forum and I thank you all.
I am unable to upload any new pics right now. The cable from the camera to the computer broke.
I am in NE Pa. just outside of New Jersey.
I am not aware that DeSoto had a ribbed bumper. Maybe someone put a Plymouth ribbed bumper on a DeSoto
That happens a lot. From what I hear these ribbed bumpers are very popular with custom car builders. They were a 1 year only (1949) style.
The last year for the Plymouth/DeSoto/Chrysler Woodies was 1950. ( I read that somewhere in the many books I have on Woody cars)
My 1st car was a 1949 Plymouth 2-door sedan and I redid the brakes on that way back when I was 17 years old.
I have had several Mopars from this time period so the brakes don't scare me. I also have the drum puller - got that from my uncle when he retired from his fleet mechanic job.

I love all cars and have had some MoPars, this beauty made my knees buckle. OMG, what a killer survivor. I have seen some fab woodies and this is one of the coolest ever, congrats on being the caretaker. And yes, please keep it all original.
