Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 31Vicky with a hemi, May 20, 2019.

  1. Well everything seems to be good enough.
Did a 100’ burnout, backed up, first second third shift.

All that on just the starter motor alone! Now what will the engine do? :D

  4. No telling!!!
At least now we can start it, drive it and tune it.
Kinda risky business test driving a circle track race car around the block. I make him do that I got enough trouble with the damn car and the neighbors and no time to monkey around with the sheriff too. :p:D

  5. Have you figured out exactly what was the root cause of all the issues? Sounds like you hot it licked.

  6. Check the pump in that 1st trans. I broke the nose off of 2 starters in one of my Vettes. Found trans pump was going bad and would periodically lock up when trying to start car. Put in new pump and all has been fine for last 15 or so years.

  7. At the very front of the mess and before I ever saw it- the root cause there was an asshole in charge.

  8. For all of us that have yet to have this kinda fun.... how much run-out (measured on the teeth face of the flexplate) is considered too much?

  10. Only FSM specs I could find was 0.030.
Seems kind of tight for a tolerance on something named a flex plate.
Theoretically it should spin pretty damn true and by eye it does.
Give me an email address and I’ll send you what too much looks like

So what are you saying YOU were the issue? Get it out fast and skip some steps?
Or trying to be funny? You are quite entertaining, to be honest

Like I said in my post, don’t see shit like this everyday, but I have gone down the rabbit hole more then once on a “simple repair” only to find out it’s a one in a thousand kerfuckery situation.

Those things will bust up parts in a lot of weird ways. Probably broke a trans case in a wreck and reused his "good" converter in the replacement and never saw that anything was bent. Thanks for posting! Your headache will hopefully help someone else down the line when things just don't make sense

Sorry you had to go through that. I think I will live vicariously through you instead of going through it myself. Murphy's law prevails again. I hate old Murphy .
