Vintage shots from days gone by!

  1. Off topic reply but the photo reminded me of something. In your steam loco photo, the train looks to be a heavily loaded freight so probably not going as fast as the car might be. As a contrast we were driving across France a couple of years ago in a little (French-built) Toyota rental - cruising at 130 kph (about 80 mph) and a passenger train passed us as if we were standing still. It appeared and was gone again in just a few seconds. I know the Eurostar that we went from London to Paris on was doing 285 kph (175+mph) most of the way.

    Lots of interesting stuff re old locos. Good to see the Big Boy steaming again.
