I have a '34 Cabriolet with a stroker 302 Ford in it. The car really runs strong and is a pleasure to drive except for the engine fan noise. At 60 mph I am only doing about 2500 rpm's but it sounds like a jet plane. It has a stainless flex fan that moves a lot of air. The car never gets about 175 degrees, even on the hottest days. When I was younger the noise was not an issue but now it is getting to me especially on longer trips. Is there a flex fan out there that is quiet ? Thanks for any advice.
I had the same issue, I'm fitting a fan shroud and a clutch fan to my avatar to reduce the noise. Flex fans are inherently noisy....
I don’t think that my RPU’s flex fan will bother me. Let’s see. Y Block through porter mufflers, wind noise , quick change gear noise ... What flex fan ?
....and prone to cracking! Them things are dangerous!!! Go to a stocker clutch fan.... That's good advice right there!...
I have this fan on my Deuce and our '54 wagon, they both stay cool and nether one has a shroud, they both also have Walker Radiator. HRP
I've got a flex fan out in the shed that will pull more air then you ever need though a radiator but I think you can hear that bugger over open headers and from experience can hear it coming down the road before you see the car. I've thrown too many stainless flex fans in the scrap bin because they had at least one cracked blade to want to buy or run another though.
There were some factory flex fans that weren’t real noisy and worked good. I have a steel one on the Chevy 350 I pulled out of my car, engine numbers said it was a 1975 pickup engine, and it looked like whoever put it in used it just like it came out of the truck, wiring and all. It sat two feet from the radiator, no shroud, and never ran over 185*, even in traffic idling. I wanted to use it on my 302, but it’s got a reverse rotation water pump, so it wouldn’t work.
