History For Sale: 1957 Kellison J5

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Ryan, May 1, 2019.

  1. Kinda reminded me of the Salt Lake City based blown Chrysler powered "Tijuana Taxi".
I loved watching it run at the old Bonneville Raceway.

I thought my friends were harsh.;)

It would look extra pimp sitting in front of that vintage travel trailer at the HAMB Drags, and at the big end burnin by for us mere mortals to cheer on. You should get it.:D

Right to your garage door...roll off and in...and tranny fluid and marvel oil into the cylinders...fire it up for a bit before tidying things up...

That's exactly what I did...and this Hambers in good standing...;)

Ryan, if nothing else, at least, make an offer, of what you think and what you can afford.

I had a similar Kellison for about 5 minutes...but had a reality check. If you are taller than 5'6" to about 5'8" forgettaboutit. You can never get inside the car. I'm near 6'4" and after getting in mine (which took a few minutes) and closing the door I felt an overwhelming sense of my mortality....the fit was tighter than my own skin. It was a badass car though...one of the few times I wished I was shorter.

Thank You! I dont feel so bad now after reading this. I missed it the last time when it was for sale in Florida. The guy selling it told me " Sorry, you're too late. A guy from Oregon just bought it a few minutes ago". I was crushed. I even started a thread on here about it. I lusted that car soooo bad..... Now I can tell myself that I would'nt have fit in it anyways.

Thanks for the update @Russco yeah Gonzo again just like that...Hope its resurrection plays out here...Who ever said Hotrods were practical anyway...you'd figure there would be room in that long nose to stretch your legs.

Congrats to the Buyer...;)...I totally get your thoughts on missing out.

Dude I'm telling you....you have to be about 5'6" and a buck fifty to get in and drive that car. Mine was a bitchin J5 with the canted quad headlights on it's original Kellison frame. Was beyond beautiful to look at...but completely impractical for me.

I've never sat in one... And I've only seen a J6 in person. I believe the J6 has a little taller roof line, right?

    And here's a j6:

Looks like a couple of inches difference... of course the earlier ones are sleeker... I'm 6'2", so I could cut my feet off and prolly be fine...

...J5 has a more aggressive profile and wins out in the style department in my books but that varies by individual of course...Size wise I suppose the J6 would be more user friendly. Dunno, obviously it could be like any vehicle, have limitations for those that are size challenged. In the case of this J5 if you ever snag one you better sit in it first before you lay down the dough...too bad

Just went to the For Sales to check it out and see it has sold. At 6'4" it wouldn't have worked for me.
I actually don't get what all the fuss is about, it looks like a British sports car of that era?????
    Each to their own.

  29. I would clone the Akins & Hardcastle "Stinger". In '66 with wild man Gary Southern driving, and Pat Akins nitro 392 sending 2000HP through the direct drive to the rear end, the "Stinger" ran right at 200mph, and ET's down to 8:15.
