  2. I thought this was going to be a total hack thread but glad to see I was wrong.

You’re a madman but in the best possible way for taking this project on.

    Impressive work.

I was a big fan of your work converting from four door to two door...great work!

I was on board for the chop. Not so much now. Any thing resembling good proportions has been lost due to excessive chop.

Sorry I don't want my car chopped like every single other person on this earths merc. The chop still has so much more detail work to go over you shouldn't jump to such a big conclusion before you see the finished product..

You must be under 30....having adopted the Millennial New Age vocabulary........'hater' is a really over the top word to use when describing my comment.

Unless the Merc is being built to stand around and look at, not to be driven on public roads, the 'mail slot' windows will not provide a very good outside view. Not to mention headroom. Those considerations are the basis of my 'criticism'.

Jimmy, I've seen a lot of Merc chops but don't recall ever seeing a chop done where the roof skin was cut completely across laterally (B post to B post) and another skin (red oxide) spliced in from there to the back window. It obviously eliminates the need to relief slice each side going forward from the rear, but the lateral welding and finishing needed seems to be about the same amount of work. Is that rear skin a second Merc roof skin? Please elaborate.

I left the rear window in the stock position and just leaned it forward instead of moving it forward and adding metal to the package tray area which left the remainder of the original roof too short. So instead of making a entire new skin we just cut the roof off another merc i had here that was going to be a carson top car eventually.

Oh man the internet, keyboard cowboys with no face to face communications and look were it goes. "Hater", "half of the guys on the HAMB who trailer/ don't drive there shit". And all of that is just talk. Because I have a clue for you, you don't know wither any one trailers or not, and I would just bet a ton of money that most guys on the HAMB do not trailer there shit.

One mans opinion even when it doesn't agree with your's does not a "Hater" make. Agree or don't agree that's is cool but he is still completely right in making the comment if he see's it that way. I don't agree with that opinion not at all. I like the way this car is going, but I also see that there may be some that don't like it at all as well. Want it some other way don't post what you are doing to your car. If you do post what you are doing then it is an open forum and you have just invited his and anyone else who wants to make a comment to do so. You don't get to pick just the post's you like, you get to see them all, like it or not, Tough Shit!!

As to how severe your chop is, it is pretty severe, but that's not up to me that's up to the builder. When I chopped my Model A sedan almost all of the arm chair car builders said " Oh two or three inches is all you can really chop a Model A and have it still usable". I chopped mine 6 1/2 inches and it does have a mail slot windshield and front opening, and I have no problem at all driving it and enjoying it with that chop. I also am 6'3" tall and as a Old Man way to damn heavy, and none of that is a problem not at all. "Jimmy Burns" talks in his post about the seat being cut down were he has all of the head room he needs. That is what you do with a severe chop, you make the other things work so that the damn thing is comfortable and usable.

I do drive my car even with that big chop. Yesterday and today I drove it a little less than 900 miles round trip, a few Marine Corps buddy's and I get together for Breakfast every year in Monroe La to pay our respect to our old fallen Commander who is buried there. Always drive my Hot Rod and will never miss this as long as I am around.

This is a very damn good build thread, Thanks Jimmy for posting it and letting us see how this is going! Your four door to two door conversion is inspired and I like it a lot. I like this build a lot. Are there things about it I don't care for--YES. I see however no reason what so ever to cloud this thread with my stupid opinions on what this man is building. The HAMB should not be like every other Forum out there. The HAMB should be better than that...
