And were you driving a Hot Rod or Custom, Yesterday I posted in the what did you do today thread and said I had gotten pulled over, it got me to thinking how often our servants in blue take the time to hand write us a summons for our minor or major traffic digressions.

Spun a tire, literately spun a tire trying to get out in traffic and then saw a BLUE LIGHT in my rear view mirror, I was chastised by a officer less than half my age and was told I was driving erratic and I stressed I had to hustle to get out in the street with the heavy traffic, me and my '50 got away with a warning, thankfully. HRP

 

Yesterday, got the blue lights comin down my street (Country road) Pulled in my drive way and stop. New (Rookie) says I was goin 45 in a 40 zone.
I said "Really, sorry. By the way are you new on the force? He says Yes, I said I thought so, as I thought I knew all of ya here in town. By the way do you know who lives on that 3 acres next 2 me? He say's no. I say that yer captian's place. He say's Oh Ok have a nice day, just watch your speed. Will do rookie. Had to laugh.

 

My wife warned me last night to watch my spending on car part purchases

 

The last time I got a ticket (I was speeding) was in about 1975 (hopped up '51 Ford pick-up). I told the cop I was late picking up my wife from work and would it be OK if I went and picked her up and came back for the ticket. He said OK, I'm pretty sure that wouldn't happen today. I did get stopped for speeding in my '63 in 1997 but because my driving record looked clean he just gave me a warning and sent me on my way.

I'm very much deserving of many speeding tickets, but I seem very lucky and the cops seem to spend their time patrolling where I'm not driving.

My muscle used to get pulled over lots for nothing, never a ticket and I am not pleasant to deal with in those situations Last time I told cop “I don’t pedal crack from this car, my chevette I drive with a bag of crack and shotgun on my lap”
He knew he’d just been “owned”

 

About 2 weeks ago. In my OT shop truck. I will admit to day dreaming. Failure to obey posted traffic signs $180, no points. The last ticket before that was 40 years ago.

I was stopped about 5 years ago. We had louver dies for our Scotchman Ironworker, so I thought it would be cool to louver the back license plate on my Deuce roadster. One day I was driving along and noticed a police car starting to pass me on my left. He got along side of me and slowed down and pulled behind me, and lit me up. When he walked up to me he asked for license, registration and insurance and he asked "what's up with the plate". As I started to explain, I opened my wallet and I made sure he saw my PBA Card and my Fire Department I.D. as I'm a retired firefighter. He just shook his head and asked if I had a plate that wasn't punched. I said I have one in my trunk. He said "when you get home put that plate on the car" and get going. Nice guy!

 

Last year, I was going to the parts store cruising in the '54 in the left lane and I just happened to look in the rear view mirror. There was a police cruiser about two car lengths behind me and I figured that she may be on a call, so I pulled into the right lane. She changed lanes also and stayed close to me. Finally she lit me up.
I turned into a parking lot and couldn't think of anything I had done.
She came up to the window and just said: license, registration, and proof of insurance. I gave my usual response that for her safety and my protection it was in the glove box and was going to get it. I gave it to her and she went to her car to check everything.
She came back and asked if I knew why she had stopped me. I just responded : "you wanted my phone number?" Without even an attempt at a grin she said that my license plate was mostly hidden behind the rear bumper and was not readable. Then she asked how long it had been hidden like that. I told her it had been like that for 63 years and it was the stock position. Then it happened... she smiled and said; you old guys crack me up. Drive safe".

 

I used to be the guy that wrote the tickets, I was always more concerned about the young guys in late model mustangs and camaros or riceburners than the older folks in the hotrods and classic cars. I can tell you that the soccer mom talking on her phone while putting on lipstick and reaching back to smack the ice cream out of Jr's hands is more of a road hazard than most others.

 

1985 Reno -cop said I made a left turn in front of oncoming traffic-cars were a block away! Was in wife's 55 and just unloaded at Fitzgeralds Casino. Cope were jerks! Got a ticket for that one. None since and none in the prior 15 yrs.

 

been a long time since I got one for driving badly. I did get stopped a couple times recently for important things like trailer lights and such.

 

Last time i was in trouble was about 20 years ago . I had an old 1950s VOLGA that looked like shit ( all Volgas look like shit ) with long expired Estonian plates and it needed new Dutch registration. Still needed to pay import duties first . At the industrial estate about a mile away was a customs dept' depot for the international truckies . Guy there said he would do my paperwork if i brought the car to check the chassis number . Could,nt find that number but there was a body number on the left A pillar with letters about a half inch tall. Good enough for me so i rang my insurance agent for a one day coverage. Just as well because in that one mile trip the cops pulled me over. Remember the car looked like shit. Well the cops did a bit of on the spot roadworthy check which was,nt to good but had no idea how to give me a ticket with the Estonian plates. My story to the customs depot was plausible but they wanted to do a insurance check. Sure, call my insurance company , chassis number is here ( door post ). They thought they could nail me on that but all was OK .Then they started about the alchohol smell ( 10.00 AM ) come on !!. The damn thing was leaking antfreeze. Anyhow i was still given a lecture with the message that they did,nt want to see the car again.

 

The only ticket (that I remember) was about 1981.
Last night my wife warned me if I didn't stop farting in bed one of us was sleeping on the couch and I'm sure she meant me.

 

Got a ticket last month for passing an old lady in a no passing zone. Three years ago I got the same ticket for different old lady. Where I live is all S turns and short straightaways. Should probably move to Arizona

 

August 3, 2015. Failure to control vehicle. Tongue broke away on one side on the trailer I was pulling. Demolished my '94 F150 I was towing with, the trailer, and my nice '95 Suburban when it landed on it's roof with the trailer on top of it. I also learned to wear seat belts in that one, I think I bounced off every corner of the cab, and broke the steering column with my face when it finally came to rest. I looked like Frankenstein for a week or so.

 

Last ticket was for no seat belt, 3 or 4 years ago. No previous moving violations since the 90’s but the local cop wouldn’t cut me any slack. The fine was $138...

 

1965, was in my 60 chevy 348. Hit me with 20 over, was that or drag racing, my choice.

 

1979.....slo and go.....

 

I have not had a moving violation ticket since the early 70's. Since then I got written up for an expired trailer license in the early 90's. That is what I get for helping a friend out.

The last time I was stopped was several years ago in my '55 Chevy. Truly I don't make a habit of speeding but sometimes I can't help it. The young trooper walked up to the car and asked if I knew how fast I was going and I replied that I did not know. Then after looking at me for a couple of seconds he asked how old I was. I replied and he just shook his head and walked back to the car. If I am not mistaken he was laughing a little.

That incident is representative of getting stopped and not being an asshole to the guy/girl that is simply doing his/her job. I'm betting there is not one of us here that has committed and traffic violation and has not been stopped. OK, you got away with that one so why act like a prick when you do get stopped.

And the doughnut jokes are a bit wearing, too.

 

Twenty five years ago.
The only moving accident I’ve ever had.
Was Test driving a Volvo/Gm truck in Quality control at the final Assy plant.
Stopped at a stop sign, took off and immediately t-boned a farm truck. I didn’t look twice. He was behind the west coast mirror during the first look.

 

Won't help much - 1/2 of California moves here when they retire.

2005, I think. Speeding.

 

Had quite a few run ins with police over stepping their line over the years. I’m just a law abiding car guy from the suburbs. Or so I think.
I got arrested and charged a few weeks ago trying to submit video evidence at a police station proving my ownership of stolen and irreplaceable 1953 Eldorado parts .
The loss of the parts to a prick who was a client and friend is devastating. The subsequent police action .... or rather lack of action is indefensible. The complete restored bumper on the car in my avatar was one of the many parts stolen.
Police refused to accept evidence, I refused to leave unless they accepted it. Now I’m spending thousands of dollars defending
1. Contravene a police order.
2. Obstruction of Police.

 

No warning, straight to a ticket. Squealing tires on Broadway the main street in town from traffic light to the next. This is where all the cruising took place back then. Seems the city had passed an ordinance about squealing tires while I was away serving in the military. Cop was sitting on a side street when I hit second gear and squealed the tires in a 61 Vette. I think they got me for failure to control or excessive speed not sure which. Young at the time 23 and just returned home from Viet Nam. Sure wish I had kept that car!!!

 

I don't remember when I last got "written up". It had to be over 25 years ago and I vaguely recall spending the greater part of my weekend attending a "comedy" defensive driving class. As I've grown to look more like a grandpa and the cops more like grandsons, I've noticed that I get treated more kindly and respected, and I respond more kindly and respectful..... I'm talking about the half dozen times I have been stopped in those last 25 years.
The script goes something like this.........
Law- Do you know why I stopped you?
Me- I was going too fast.
Law- Do you know how fast you were going?
Me- Too fast. I hit the brakes before I checked the speedo. You made a good stop, no argument.
(These LEOs get lied to and argued with 99 out of 100 stops. Apparently, it's refreshing and disarming when they don't get the expected flying bullshit. Even though I'm wearing my hot rod T-shirt and I'm "all-motor", I try to behave like a hardworking taxpayer and not an all too familiar dirtbag drain on the penal system. What's not to understand about that?)
He checks me out in the squad', as he should, and cuts me loose with a warning.

50 years later, I'm still pissed over a ticket for driving a clean, daily driver, El Camino in a "no truck" zone. There's the spirit of the law, and there's the letter of the law, and there's the assholes of the law. I haven't met many of those but I have met one.

 

So pretty much all my friends and most of the people I worked with over the years have heard this one. Late 1980's driving my O/T Corvette. It's about 11:30 PM beautiful summer night Hot Blonde in the passenger seat. I come over the crest of a hill and as soon as I do he hits the lights. I immediately slow down and pull over 10-15 feet ahead of him. He pulls out and is right behind me. I'm thinking it may have helped that he didn't need to chase me down. Comes up to the window and asks where you heading in such a hurry. I stated I was taking my "friend" out for a moonlight drive. He says its 55 here do you know you were doing 69? I said I couldn't have been officer I was driving at the time. She starts laughing, he looks at her and cracks a grin and says slow it down and walks away shaking his head. Was probably as good a story for him to tell as for me.

 

About a couple years ago was driving home after working all day on the ranch, a lot of it is windy mtn two lane and getting stuck behind looky loos that wont use the turnouts is common. Early that morning I was the eighth car behind a looky loo that wouldn't pull over. So on the way home got stuck behind a guy in his Subaru that was not going to pull over mile after mile 30-35 miles an hour. So once I hit the flatter land where I blasted by him I just kept going and didn't slow down until... yes there he was go figure. so I just pulled over he didn't even have to lite me up. He jokingly asked me if I knew how fast i was going and I said no but I know I was hauling ass. He then jokingly asked why I was doing 95 when it's a 55 and so I told him of my frustration. He told me that's why he was patrolling that road as there had been so many complaints of people impeding traffic. He said looks like you've had a long day as I was pretty dirty and if I could go to traffic school which I said yes, he wrote me for 70 in a 55 and told me to be careful as he will be a regular for a while. We just wave occasionally now.

 

I'm one of those (old) kids in a new CS/GT... Hope I never get pulled over....

Had a '70 Nova SS in '86 and got pulled over for no seat belt.... The fine was $25.00 then....
