My 1940 Special Deluxe has side "chrome" under the window and on to the hood. This has the embossed metal which is part of the body.

There is a Truck Stop/Travel Center called Russell's in Endee, NM... on Interstate 40 near the TX/NM line. This place has a museum... full of quite a few old cars and trucks along with a bunch of other old collectible stuff that we like. Anyhow, they have 2 of these Skyliners on display... a '58 and a '59 I believe. On the adjacent wall, there's a TV playing in a loop, one of the original promotional videos from Ford. Very cool stuff! If you're ever in the area, stop and check it out! Free admission.... between Glenrio and San Jon...

    Hello,
In all fairness of accuracy, research in family files and extensive web presence, that photo is of a trailer park, right on the cliff side, of a beach in South Orange County. It is located in Dana Point off of Selva Rd. The Rockford Files trailer location was at Paradise Cove in North Malibu, ALMOST A 100 MILES NORTH ALONG THE COAST.

It was location filming as the Paradise Cove is a public beach, with no dogs allowed. The filming of the trailer scenes took place on the old parking lot. Not in Orange County, in beach side, Dana Point. Those empty lots were filled with trailers for a private beach area previously owned by the family of the LA Times newspaper.

There was a beach/tennis club located within those trailers on the cliff/beach side. We were good friends with the tennis pro there. Our kids grew up together since kindergarten. If the James Garner association was true, they would have told us as friends and neighbors. The surf in front of the trailers was beautiful, not rideable, but, it was a good fishing beach. Farther North is Salt Creek Beach, one of the best surf spots on the California Coast.

Just south of the ex-trailer park, is Strands Beach. Back in the trailer park days, it was one of the most secluded beaches in the South Orange County area. It was a long walk from the highway down some rickety stairs to the surf break or a steep climb or drop down the Headlands, cliff side shrubs to the surf break.

Obviously, any beach in Orange County will not stay the same. This place is no longer a secluded beach as there are now zillion dollar homes located where those empty trailer park pads are in the photo. It is an exclusive beach enclave just below the Headlands of Dana Point.

The beach below is still a public beach, less crowded than most. Those rickety stairs are now, concrete and well used. It is still a long walk from the parking area to the surfing waves on the point. But, definitely worth the effort. Sunsets? Seclusion? Just a cool place to hang out for a few hours? It is here in South Orange County, just around the Headlands from the Dana Point Harbor.
