The crossmember is 2.75", and they gave me a 3.00" u-bolt. I went back yesterday and got it exchanged for a 2.75" u-bolt which fits much tighter against the crossmember now.

hey just a little food for thought...for about 30 bucks a piece you can get single bulb lights that look like flourescents but theyre leds, i have 3 in my workspace i am prepping and its awesomely bright! i couldnt help but notice your space is a little dim and for me personally i like working better when i can see EVERYTHING keep posting! enjoying your thread immensly

I did this in my basement. I was thinking about something like that too. The guy we bought the house from took out the dropped ceiling and all the fluorescent light fixtures and put some stupid rinky dink light fixture in the corner of the basement.

    Hibernation projects:
I figure that it's to cold out to work on anything I can take care of a few smaller interior projects
I know it's probably easier to get a new rust free dash, but I figure why not sharpen up my design and fab skills. Looks like the skin of the dash and the glove box brace should be easy to fab up.

sweetest thing about the leds beyond being super bright is they dont have to warm up like fluorescents. they snap on every time

So this morning the guy who I bought my 47 from shared a pic on facebook of what my car looked like when he got a hold of it. Apparently it spent most of it's life as a coon-port-o-potty.

Hey Topher5150, what was the length of the new main spring you got for the front? My shackles pointed outward on my 48, not inward. Is that how yours is?
    Andy Dewitt.....where are you located?

Liking this thread...Topher, you are a smart head. Nice project.

    I had a CHERRY '46 Club Coupe in '62. Paid a friend $12 for it, no engine/trans.
No rust, everything was nice. Old woman had the car, my bud bought it for the engine/trans for his '31 roadster.
Always garaged, nice maroon car...it got my wild 671 blown Joe Reath Chrysler hemi.

Loved that car...now I have a '47 Four door. It'll be a 'throwback' to '52, when the guys with young families 'mildly customized' the family sedan...skirts, whitewalls, Cad sombreros, lower in rear...milder engine, too...LOL

Very nice. Unfortunately we in Michigan don't always have the luxury of rust free cars, but I did find a body with a solid floor and frame so I'm going to snag that.

Does anyone have any advice for swapping floors?

What trans did you decide on running? I have a 46 coupe and a 48 Tudor. The Tudor had a 302 C4 which I swapped for a T5. If your running an AOD you'll have some trimming to do to get it to fit. The C4 was TIGHT and an AOD is massive in comparison.

I'll probably go with a C4 I don't think the would be too happy with a 5 speed

5 speed made a world of difference! But I'm a manual transmission guy. I used the CE motor mounts and made my own trans mount. Unsplit bones, dropped axle, reverse eye main leaf, with a few leaves removed front, rear is CE parallel leaf kit with a 9 inch out of a 60s f100. 46-48 is the best years for Ford! 20181213_131315.jpeg

Did some work on making brackets to attach caster wheels to the back of the frame. I managed to slip in the packed snow where I was working and landed armpit first on top of the air compressor

Hey flatout51, do you have pictures of your trans mount? I am running a T5 with unsplit bones and would like an idea. topher5150, where did you get your font spring shackles with the shock mounts built into them? Thanks
