BB Mopar powered 34 Dodge coupe, tubbed frame rail supports behind the axle coil overs with wide offset rims. That 3/4 depth notch for ladder bar clearance doesn't leave a lot of strength above (2"x1") given the depth of the notch. That diagonal brace doesn't really do a lot either and is pretty agricultural.

  7. A pair of old Stock Car wheels that were halved long ago.

I am in a quandary with this do I fix them to race on my vintage car, or leave them alone and use them to put the car on and off the trailer?

I don't dare use these for real racing!

Brand name IFS. It just goes to show that even the professionals sometimes get it wrong; poor quality (Inadequate) welding, design and fit up.

Please, no more. My brain can't take it. What hurts is there is more of this than you think.

  18. Yes, the modern stuff that has snuck in makes me cringe as well.

I think this thread was intended to document what was done in the early days before the 1-800 speed shops.
When you made do with what you had.
A time when if you wanted a hot rod or race car you had to build it.
If you didn't have a tubing bender you used a hand grinder to fish mouth tube or simply mitered it

Clean up the welds in pics 3 & 4, run a hot pass of 7018 over them, run them. What's the problem?

  21. I know I can fix them, it's the fact they have been this way 20 maybe 30 years before I was born. (1981)

They have history this way. A true pioneer did this, I am just a guy trying to emulate the past what gives me the right to change it?

Yeah, that one needs to be in wiring books under "don't do this"!

WTF in the world are people thinking

    chryslerfan55 and mgtstumpy like this.
  26. They think plenty, just not past the end of their nose. That’s pretty ingenious, needs power out of that wire and gets it. No knowledge or thought of anything beyond that. Sort of like an animal with opposing thumbs,,,

I think of something like that wiring every time I read somebody talk about running a wood screw into a 12 volt battery to get 6 volts out of it. It might work, but just think, is it RIGHT?
