And while we are talking about converting, I still have the original distributor. Points, I assume. It would be beneficial to go electronic? Which one?

    Omar,
I've got a new Accel 59301 electronic distributor that I intended to use on my 331.
For the run-in, I did put it in, but decided later to go with points.
If you're interested, shoot me a PM, and I'll send pix and info.

Wow that’s new to me. Mopar thing. What is the purpose of the ecu? Is it like fords ignition module? All Mopar points distributors use it?

  12. It is like fords ignition module just less prone to failure. Not needed with points, used with electronic ignition.

That should get the ford guys riled up! Lol

If used with points a very small amount of current passes through the points making points last much longer and hotter spark. Factory it was used with magnetic switch distributor.

    It doesn't balance anything.

    It's a harmonic dampener.

If it were truly one-piece, it would be called a hub, and, while it might be good for driving a blower belt, it wouldn't do anything to dissipate torsional issues coming from the crankshaft.

So leaving it like original, a two piece harmonic dampener, is best?

I went with the 340 dampener from hotheads.I had an original that "looked good"on it,came out from the paint store .Started it,had a funny ringing sound.Opened the hood, the outer ring had separated, but had slipped inward toward the crank ,came off and was spinning on the crank.I had dodged a bullet.

    A 340 dampener is a good solution.

Ok I see it on the website. And I think he recommend it if mine was bad, that 340 is a one piece to look like the original?

These dampener come off the same as the Chevys do?

Stuck my SBC water pump on temporarily tonight to see if the pulleys are going to line up properly. Looks right on. An awful lot of spacers had to be used though, it still engages the hub but barely.

Any chance I could get you to toss a tape measure across that dampener?

I need to order the correct diameter degree ring, for my blower hub.

This would be the proper manifold for my motor? 5CEF7332-5BC3-4D8B-A1B4-AA5FB2E37844.png

That's a rare piece but I don't know if it will fit your engine. There is a thread here on the HAMB for Edmund intakes but can't find it at the moment.

We would need to see a bottom view. The '51-'53 heads have smaller ports than the '54's, so if was made for the early small port heads, it wouldn't be ideal for your engine. I have used later manifolds without the water outlets on the earlier blocks a couple of times. The NPT threaded holes in the manifold can be connected with the proper fittings and heater hose to a remote thermostat housing and you're done. I have a later Weiand dual quad on the '54 New Yorker engine in my dirt car. I think I can dig up a picture if you want to see how I did it.
