Just put some 4in drop springs on my daily. Outside of paint and possibly shaving the door handles this is about as custom as shell get.

    Nice '49 Dodge grille installation.
Dropped axle, shackles, de-arched springs w/reversed eyes.

I love the '57 Olds tail lights!

This is about as custom as you'd see on the streets locally when I was growing up.
Everyone was interested in what was under the hood.

It's beautiful, Pete.Did you decide against the Merc rear wheel wells? I much prefer the skirts.
BTW, Do you still have the '61?

  17. Kept the Merc wheel wells in case I want to switch it back, but love love love the skirts.

Yes, still have the '61 and that is about to undergo a similar restyling. Stay tuned!

  18. I saw this example of a very early '50s mild custom in TRJ Scrapbook and just went wild. Great stuff. Note the stock stance- unlike so many contemporary interpretations, the car is not dragging the ground. It is definitely not a tail-dragger. Note the gap over the front tire to the fender tire reveal.

My research tells me that customs and mild customs today are typically much lower than what commonly would have been found in the immediate post WWII period.

Heresy, I understand, but look at the pics....

And this old timer. All my tribe.

Do take note of the "mild rearward rake" referred to in the first picture's text. Definitely not stock (all three examples, actually), and, as the caption notes, "completes the look".

You will never see this car displayed at a show with the hood, doors and trunk lid shut.

A rare occasion when the doors are shut. The car was originally built in Minnesota. Now resides in Council Bluffs Iowa. Scan0931.jpg
