Technical What did you do today?

That yard work I was doing last week has carried over to next door. Maybe it is time to get started on the garage rear wall repair and new window & door install. Bob

 

Got all the seat rebuilding supplies for my seat in yeaterday. Cleaned up all the listing wire, hogs rings and fabric off the seat for the Unibody today. Tomorrow will be scrubing it down with Scotchbrite so I can throw a quick paint job on it this weekend. Supposed to be a balmy 70° here this weekend.

 

Made up wiring panel and fitted to firewall of my 32 Ford cabriolet.

It is the same simple panel I have made and used on a number of hot rods.
The main hot lead will come from the starter to the terminal at the top of the bottom panel.
The bottom panel will be hot all the time unless the battery cut-off switch is off.
Power from the power terminal goes to the relay "power in" terminal via the bottom 10 GA wire.
Power goes from the relay on the "power out" terminal via the top 10 GA wire and that wire powers the whole panel at the top. You also see a black "ground" wire for the relay that goes down to the bolt that holds the panel to the firewall and also serves as a ground. Not shown is the fourth wire which will be 14 GA from the ignition switch that will energize the relay and put power to the top panel when the ignition is turned on.
The bottom panel will power things like lights, brake light switch, flashers, horn, etc.
The top panel will power wipers, radio, air conditioner(I wish!), etc.
Pick an outboard terminal and run a wire to whatever needs juice; insert appropriate size blade fuse in the box and you are done. There are 10 outputs from each panel. The ones I used to buy at Advance for about $10 each only had 6 outputs. Advance now wants big $$ for that same panel! I found these on-line for about $12 each and they have optional plastic covers which the Advance panels did not have.

^^ Sure, the bottom one could be switched around to have the numbers not be upside down but then you have a hot terminal at the bottom and not in nearly a protected area as in the current configuration.

Went to Goodguys show at Del Mar , My friend Hot rod Holly is good buds with Gene Winfield so she brought him over to where we were parked and we all hung out with Gene for awhile He says his hip is all better and he's doing fine.

 

Finally got the last part in to finish up the rear end and redrilled the drums to Chevy pattern, should be back under the truck this weekend. Painted a couple pieces Chevy orange just to mess with my ford buddy that didn't like my red oxide primer 3rd member under a Chevy truck.

No Pictures , but I got a good handle on a rebuild of a Turbo 400 , for my Buddy’s project . Gots some diesel repairs lined up , then a Harley carb and caliper swap out to later issued stuff , then a wire up home back up generator . A few weeks and all booked up so far !

 

If the weather clears up here today, like it is supposed to, going to get the drag coupe out. Just put some race gas in the fuel cell and cleaning her up abit.

 

So far today I've replaced the fuel tank on the Galaxie. Original had two holes in the top letting water in. Taking a Hamb break and heading back out in a few

 

Donut Derilicks at 5:00AM, started raining 1/2 way there. Got to test the Newport electric wipers... happy with them. Proves the car isn't made of sugar......it didn't melt in the rain.

 

Two months ago I was splitting kindling for the woodstove down in the basement shop. Head flew off the hatchet on the third or fourth swing and shattered the sliding glass door. Taped it to keep it together, bought two sheets of 2 inch ridged foam for backup protection,, nice hillbilly fix. New door would run 800-1,500, and I never got to ask what a 4x8 replacement glass would cost. Wednesday I spotted three doors in town leaning against a building that was being remodeled. Took two days to get the ok, FREE DOORS! Installed it today and I can get in and out of the basement again. Some day all three car projects in there can come out. It was a good day. Bob

 

Worked on a digital slide show of build pictures which will be part of my display next weekend at the GSTA show.

 

Mikey spent 10 bucks per gallon. eek!

 

Started to pull the engine out of my 32 because it decided it did not want to participate this year

 

Figured how to install spirallocks and assembled the short block on my 545 inch 460 stroker.

 

Blew out the back wall of the shop for access to the new addition. Tomorrow is insulation and electrical day. Got a bunch of lights coming from Amazon on Tuesday. Moving right along!

 

I should do that too my garage also... The alley was blocked off some years back and now I can extend the back 7 er 8 feet.... Gotta check with the city first....

 

Finally finished reassembly of my engine and did the startup and break in today. Had a heater hose leaking, has now been replaced. Tomorrow I have some engine dress up items to install, and a tune up, then my 37 should be drivable again.

And the forecast calls for rain.

( no not one of those )show 21/2 hours away
but I worked on the flattie reverse sump
For what ever reason ford never made a front sump flattie
And I am probably the only guy that needs one
But want to share this method of making a template to fill the void probably not a idea that hasn’t surfaced in the past but it was for me
There has been a lot of Paper templates in my life .......
This proved to be a time saver as it was cut out with a exato knife ( sorry for the spelling)
and transfers easily to sheet metal (16 gauge)

And yah finishing the day listening to Garden by the Groundhogs
