Jim, The guy who has owned this truck, just called me and he says that its "for sale". After 54 years and three rebuilds, I would adopt it...not sell it

This is an odd one. At first glance it looks like a nice original stock 36' Dodge with a 37' Dodge hood and 35 Dodge horn covers. The bed is correct but then I noticed the cab which is not Dodge and almost looks more like an International. Do you have any details on this?

  12. ...it's a Dodge car made into a pickup,...uses a rear section from a mid 30's Chevy sedan for the rear roof section among other pieces, note how beltline doesn't line up. I like it.

    Hello,

Having grown up in the Westside of Long Beach, I was introduced to customs and hot rods through a neighbor. He owned a business that was used by our family and out in front was always parked, the owner’s custom Tahitian Red Ford F100 truck. The business neighborhood was not brightly painted and the design mode back then was white or beige paint for the whole block. So, needless to say, when this Tahitian Red F100 was parked out in front, it drew all eyes to the truck.

Ever since then, trucks always stayed in the old brain, for a possible future purchase. These stock trucks were popular in the whole neighborhood time period as most families had to have a “work truck.” Most of the businesses, had “work trucks” to do a bunch of jobs. So, we were constantly being bombarded with images of pick up trucks.

But, this Tahitian Red, F 100 truck was the only one that was customized. Odd chopped top, deep chromed reverse rims, white tuck and roll USA upholstery, etc.

My wife has heard most of the stories of growing up in the Westside of Long Beach. After we got married, we learned more about our neighborhood and nearby relatives’ families. She saw this truck and was also impressed, saying that red truck stood out just because everything else was so ordinary and bland.

So, if she is on one of her own field trips to somewhere in So Cal with her sister or friends, she always remembers the old guy at home and his envy of current, hot rod/truck owners. We had our own hot rod history for many years with the red 1965 El Camino, a 1940 Ford Sedan Delivery and photography. But, old hot rods or custom cars parked or driven anywhere we go, light up the scene, every time.

This two toned, blue F100 pickup was well built and stood out in a long lineup of old hot rods and mild customs. HAMB’S Jimmy6 would like that red, Ford Hardtop in the next space over, too.

    Interesting.

But this rekindles my thoughts about: Is It Tahitian red or TITIAN RED?

Titian was a classical artist who used a red/gold pigment in many of his paintings, notably for women's hair color. It was embraced by many custom car painters and soon bastardized in its spelling by car buffs and in magazine articles alike as Tahitian red. For examples google "Titian red Volkswagen, Audi, Buick".
