Anyone know more about this pic? Looks to be some kind of reliability run or something. I really dig the '64 Chevy 4x4. Looks to be somewhere around NM/AZ...

Just a guess but I wonder if they aren't serving as some kind of vibration/harmonics damper. Since they are attached to the bottom of the bell housing (which is on the same casting as the engine block itself) it might be that there were problems with cracks forming in that area and the damping action of the rods solved the problem.

I would be happy to hear from anyone else that may know more about this issue!

It could be any place, but it reminds me of Church Rock, which is south of Moab, Utah.

    64 note crank driver mag.JPG
An interesting digger. I think that the mag cannot be located in the normal location because of the way the front blower is reveresed on the engine. It appears that both blowers may be driven by the single belt between the front and rear engine. Back then, NHRA's motto was "Ingenuity in Action". Today it's "Small tire in front, Big tire in back, pay at the gate"...

can't help with names, but wayne was popular in st. louis. his whole family had willys as daily drivers, as i recall. i saw that willys run several times, but i think wayne was much better known for his photography. great guy!

  27. I'm almost 76, and where I lived, marbles were very popular in the early spring. The games were played before classes and at recess, when there were no other activities going on. From my memory, I don't think anyone played beyond grade 4 or 5. I had a large accumulation, that went missing. You might say that was when I lost my marbles.

We used to take a board and cut different size holes in the edge where it would meet the ground. Each hole had a value and if you flicked your marble and it went through the hole you got the number of marbles back that was above the hole. I accumulated a lot of marbles with that game, it was harder than it looked.
