Looking for suggestions of engine machine shops that are well knowledge with Ford Fe engines. Not a full on drag motor but a nice streetable performance build. I am just north of Madison and if I was doing a small block Chevy I can take my pick. But when it comes to Fords they have a " well I sure we can do something with it" look. Would travel to Mn, Il. or whatever if it was a couple hundred mile area of my place I would be okay. Larry
Call Barry at Survival, close to Dearborn- worth the trip. Has his own aluminum heads, and does very nice stroker kits. Als has a couple books published, mild rebuild and hotter stuff. Tell him MeanGene sent ya http://www.survivalmotorsports.com/
Barry at Survival is the best there is when it comes to FE's. Might be worth the 8 hour haul from Madison to the Northwest Burbs of Detroit, hell make a weekend out of it and stop by the Henry Ford Museum or some other sight. Jay Brown is in the Twin Cities. I don't know how many customer engines he is building these days. He is pretty wrapped up in his new cylinder heads and may not be taking additional work.
Three closer to you but still not in your backyard... All do performance engines. Baxter Engines in Eau Claire Tim's Autootive Machine in Bloomer Adams Automotive in Cameron
The worst thing you can do to your FE is take it to a non-specialist, especially one that's Chebbie-crossthreaded between the ears. There are differences that will get missed/ boogered up
Who is in Fenton Missouri? It’s not far from where I work. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Larry, I don't know if he's an FE expert, but Herman's Motor Clinic in Baraboo has built a lot of local race engines.
Thanks Dave, I have dealt with Phil at Herman's as well as J J at Napa . Both super great guys . But they know Chevys not fe Fords and the last one I did jj did the block and head work and Phil balanced the lower end. there where issues with it that did not come from poor workmanship , but a lack of knowledge on fe motors. I want to go through the 428 for the 51 and I want to take it to someone that lives and breaths Ford stuff. Not Knocking Phil or JJ, Their great guys, even if they do like Chevy's Larry
John Vermeersch Total Performance Clinton Township, MI (586) 468-3673 My understanding is that John has been downsizing. If he will do it, there is no better.
