    What’s going on guys. I’m an avid browser and figured I’d put my project up here since it’s on its way. (Slowly)

    Nice looks like you've got most of the big stuff. Now the real work starts. Good luck seems like a good start.

    Looks like you are using a 29 frame, the V8 is heavier than the 4 banger, you may need to box the frame. What do you plan for brakes? have fun

    Looking good. It wasn't that long ago when I brought my flathead home in the back of my Subaru wagon. The machinist should be done soon I hope.
    I just noticed that it seems the oil return line from the filter canister appears to be plumbed into the cam gear cover. I had a question on that in another thread and it seems it should be plumbed from the cover to the intake as it is the vacuum brake signal for the dizzy. Just curious, is it plumbed as I stated?

    Thanks! Haven’t looked into boxing the frame yet. Is it needed? I’m new to hot rodding. Brakes I have 40 ford juice brakes for the front, haven’t acquired rears yet, probably do the same.

    Frame doesn't need boxed for a flathead V/8. Thousands of them done without it. My avatar was done in 1958 and still running, no boxing.

    I found that the weight of the FH made my frame sag slightly, maybe 1/16th or so, that was corrected when I added some simple boxing just with some 4" x 1/8" flat stock.

    All stock Model A's have frame sag and need to be straightened during restorations/hot rod builds. Just the nature of the beasts from many years of horrible old roads. I arch mine ever so slightly so they are flat when assembled. They bend at the firewall/steering box hole area.

    Good that you mention this, Dave... I have straightened many that were bent, some were customers' builds...on already assembled cars I'd use floor tie-downs, but hated that 'patch' type slipshod repair. I'd say every one was bent at least slightly.

    Are you intimidated by the welding?

    The only thing I can think of that would bolt in is the inner channel boxing plates that Code 504 makes. I have a set but decided to go a different way. They are essentially smaller frame rails that sleeve into a model A frame. They COULD be bolted in but you're probably still going to end up doing some cutting and welding elsewhere. BUT, I suppose you COULD get a set and cut them to fit in and around things and then bolt them in with brackets for the crossmembers.

    I would advise you to figure out how you're going to mount your transmission, steering, and pedals first before going too far down this particular rabbit hole though.

    True true I have a lot of thinking before that.

    No not afraid of welding at all. Just don’t want to ruin a perfectly nice a frame. It’s immaculate.

    If by "ruin" the frame you mean modify it, you're going to want to put the stock A engine and trans in there. Putting a flathead V8, its transmission, and juice brakes will necessitate modifications.

    Looks like a fun project and cool to see another New Englander! I don't have any strong feeling one way or another on if boxing is necessary and there are lots of unboxed frames with v8s out there, but if I had the car all apart, I would probably be inclined to box it.

    Sure thing. It won't give you all the answers specific to your build but it will get you pretty far.

    Sold the fiberglass body...... now on the lookout for some real steel. Or a better glass body..... but preferably steel.

    I don’t want this thread to die so here’s a picture of the drivetrain I currently have. I have a 37 rear I have my eyes on from my new found buddy Bob! And some other goodies....

    That Model A rear end will get you going fine as long as you don't put a lot of meat on those wheels or grunt in the engine... or dump the clutch too bad. I wouldn't let that slow down the build too much. New England is thick with V8 banjo rears though. I've got like 5 of them and my pile isn't all that big or old.

    Millworks carries locally made spring hanger conversions https://www.millworkshotrod.com/collections/suspension made by Old Yankee Speed Shop http://www.oldyankeespeed.com/about.html that you'd just need the right spring for on a wider rear end.
