My answer pertains to the dark green, well detailed SBF in image 4147406. Pretty much everybody has seen the Ford/Cobra branded Weber carb manifold but it is the crossram 4x2 that is unique. I did call the carburetors the wrong name, they were actually Barry Grant Demon 98’s, introduced about 10 years ago and long since off the market.

    Flogknaw,
    Thanks for the neat thread.
Lots of Neat Stuff on this thread.
I love Small Block Chevy's - especially the L-79 version.
Here is my Small Block - ( Hemi Chevy. )
Eventually I hope to have it in a Hot Rod.
I bought this Engine from Mr. Leo Lyons.
Leo and I became close Friends.
This was His Engine which was in a Boat.
It was raced and piloted by Mario Andretti.
Intake and Valve Covers are Magnesium.
    Heads are Aluminum.
My future plans are to reproduce these Heads and have them available For sale.
If interested get in touch with me.
    Thxs.

Just when you think you have seen it all something like this surfaces. It sounds as though you were able to purchase the patterns from Lyons also, is that correct?

My first impression was a Stude V8 in a first generation Falcon, but then I took a better look. I thought Stude because of the acorn nuts holding the valve covers down, the Stude has off centerline fasteners like that but then the distributor is layed over unlike the Stude, and there is no water crossover going to the front of the heads.
    So what is that thing?

That Indy car engine came out in the early 2000's. I feel a little guilty posting a picture of a 302 Ford which came out in 1968, but whatever................

The XPGM 265 prototype was a wooden mock-up to determine how best to fit the total package together in the all new 1955 chassis.
The Leo Lyons brochure is pretty interesting, I never knew his heads reached the marketing stage. Too bad the magazines of the day, other than R&C, didn’t do more to feature his project.
