I ran into that with my first T. I had to mount the column 1" to the right. You could barely notice it. I mocked up a steering column and steering wheel and it appears I'll be okay this time around.

Hey Fred for curiosity I contacted Bous and asked them the source (manufacturer) of that steering box and they told me they get them from Speedway Motors.

I looked it up and Speedway sells their own box which you have and also the flaming river one.

Hope the Speedway one works good for you.

 

I think I'll be okay. I've had great service from Speedway. Oh... my engine should be ready in a couple weeks, so I ordered my headers and turnouts. Also ordered my tail lights from SoCal. '37 Ford.

 

On the tail lights, I started out with the led versions of those lights and was less than impressed with the quality and appearance of the light they produced.
So I did a little searching and ordered a pair of proper glass lenses and sockets for incandescent bulbs for them and then painted the inside of the housings bright white.

That along with Silverstar 1157 bulbs works great.

Hey Fred, I used Macs. Some guys have said they are terrible, but I had no problem, I ordered a pair of lights and had them in no time at all.
I just ordered the complete light assembly and then swapped the lenses and bulb sockets into my painted housings.

So, now I have a pair of Led equipped lights for swap meet material.

The tail lights from Macs are pretty nice quality, I ordered 2 without the licence plate light, they are also available with the plate lens.

Well, my lights from SoCal are already coming. I'll check them out once installed and if there's a problem with brightness, I'll think of something. Today, I ordered my steering column drop and firewall column mount. Things are moving along nicely!

 

Glass lenses are available for about $11 each.
And you’ll find that if you want to remove the led assembly then all you have to do is straighten up the bulb socket and plug in the 1157 bulbs.

Well.... my tail lights showed up today. They look good and are bigger than I thought. Only one small problem. They didn't come with any hardware. But a quick trip to the hardware store took care of that. My original plan was to attach the lights to the rear of the frame, but the upper rear shock mount is in the way. But since my tail section is shorter than most T frames, I was going to make an extending bracket to support the gas tank. So, they'll attach to that. All in all... I'm satisfied.

 

I bought the mounting brackets that So cal sells for them Fred, they’re nice in that the wires are run through them.

That's what I bought. Two lights and two stands. I was still surprised no hardware was included to attach the light to the stands or the stands to the car.

I’m with you on the hardware thing.
I also had to get my hands on the 2 different sizes of bolts required.
I used stainless button heads and just polished them up.

The CCR firewall mount for the steering column came today along with the column drop. Both are good pieces. The column mount is powder coated. Here's a pic from CCR's website.

Hey Fred- Just going through the motions with the "vair box on the frame rail...... Pics speak for themselves, and encounters you might find...... Frame rail to box....plus+ angles, pitch, space, etc......

 

I checked my setup and it looks like I'll be fine. Plenty of room for the steering wheel without having to move the column or box over.

 

Idea's of how to get the box mounted to the frame? , and pitman arm angle in relation to the drag link?
Just wanna know how your going about it is all......Something's gotta give somewhere....

Well, my brackets came from California Custom Roadster and I installed them according to their plans. They've been building T Buckets for about 50 years. So, I think if there was an issue, they'd have it worked out by now. As for pitman arm angle, it's actually close to the angle on my last T Bucket, which I drove the shit out of with no issues... EVER. So, I'm confident things will be fine.

Not sure what you mean.
Are you concerned the drag link isn't parallel with the wishbone?

A split wishbone is a 2 link suspension that pivots like a clock hand around a single point per side.
The pitman arm tierod end needs to be as close to that same pivot point as possible and the arm can sweep up compared to the wishbone because its still basicly pivoting around the same single point.
If he were running a 4 link system, where the suspension has two frame pivot points per side and works like a parallelogram, the tierod must be parallel to those arms.
To do it any other way will result in bumpsteer. (If the cars suspension has any real amount of movement.)


It's common for people to get the two polar opposite needs confused...and then the arguments start! LoL
