Drug this home last weekend. I have a couple questions for the early mopar guys. It didnt come with keys. Do you need a key to get the old cylinder out? Is the starter on the gas pedal? Just plan on doing some mild custom, maybe some wide whites, lakes pipes and a little lower. Then drive the wheels off of it.
Neat looking car. No help on the key switch but it should just unbolt and pull out of where ever it is. It is in the dashboard is it not? Any more pics ?
It is on the dash. Cars like my 48 roadmaster have a mechanism on them which requires you to have the key in the cylinder to release the assembly. Sounds like I am going to have the old stand on your head under the dash game.
Chrysler products were the first to have key start. Yours should have it. Easiest way to get keys, is to take out the door lock, take it to a locksmith and have him make a key. The same key fits the ignition. If Plymouth is like Chrysler, the lock is held by a clip. If you open the door you can see the end of the clip opposite the lock, pull it out and the lock comes out. Or you could take out the ignition switch. Trunk lock and glove box lock are the same key. By the way nice looking car.
Nice car , if it runs and can be roadworthy with some effort its worth the time and cost...brakes are a little tricky...make sure ro replace all the flexible hoses at least...lot of woes after a brake job are the hoses...they can collapse from the inside...
Thanks. this must have been a stripper as there is no trunk lock or glovebox lock. Good info though that the door and the ignition are the same key. Thanks
What you have is the Wayfarer which was indeed the lowest priced, smallest Dodge. They offered 2 lines of cars one on a 115" wheelbase and the other on a 123 1/2" wheelbase. It may not have a glove box lock but it should have a trunk lock. If it is not visible it may be hidden in the center of the trunk handle. You can remove the back seat and get into the trunk that way, unbolt the lock and open the trunk. Then take out the lock and have it keyed. Of course if the trunk is not locked that makes it easy. It may be easier to buy a set of lock cylinders with keys off Ebay and just replace them.
hey hey, any updates on the car....winter was kind of tougb this year,,we are finally thawing out here in NY
