  1. Great job Mike!
Is that the U9 series tank form Tanks Inc? How much room will you lose with that rear bench seat?
Appreciate you, posting part numbers, so helpful to others. Looks terrific!

A lot of the stuff your doing is helping me. I'm in the same boat on the gas cap and neck, out the back, out the side, I think I'm going to go the route you've taken. How thick is the wood that goes around your quarter glass? I've got to get something for mine and I have nothing to go by.

    Yes. It's the U9 tank
I'm not sure what you're asking in regards to "losing room" with the rear seat. I'm gaining a rear seat so ultimately there is only gain, no loss.
Here are the pieces I used for the tank set up for my car.

I'd have to measure it. I assume you're asking about the wood around the rear window. Not the quarter windows
It's probably 1.5"-2" if I had to guess.
Just center the filler on the metal on the exterior between the window and the seam on the rear panel where it meets the quarter.
It will clear the wood around the window.

I have the orig window trim if you have interest. I used it as templates for my rear window.
I kept it in the event anyone needed it for a template for their project.

Hey Mike, this is what I have on my 28 Tudor. I didn’t do the install, but I think the whole filler is from a 70s something car.[IMG][IMG]

Thought about using something like that, but it’s that modern touch I’m trying to avoid.
I think I’ll French it in so the cap is more or less flush with the body.
It should be best of both worlds

  10. Sorry, I meant my 29 has original rear seat which is pretty much against the rear panel.after I push my front seats back a little legroom will be minimal. was just trying to figure out how far that tank would push the rear bench forward. I really like that setup alot and the way you framed it in. Trying to decide whether or not to go that route or out back with a 32 tank.

If not too late, try the gas filler door and about 3" of metal around it from a '41 to '48 ford or mercury car's left rear fender... trace both vert. / horiz. directions of the compound curve onto a piece of posterboard… try it in different places till you find the sweet spot... did it on [3] '33-'34 ford coupes...

I’ll post up pics later after I finish up a few other things.
There is “plenty” of foot room for rear passengers. Wouldn’t be ideal for long trips but a small adult (my kids) shouldn’t have any problem riding in the back.
My front seats are on slides and have a total of 6” adjustment.

I’m going to adjust what I currently have. It should work out as I imagine it will.

Here is the final placement of all interior components.
    IMG_4353.JPG
Considering what I’m attempting the final result is (to me) acceptable. I can comfortably sit in the back seat with my feet on the floor.

Chopped, Channeled hotrod with a Z’d frame, a 14 gal fuel tank and a backseat.
Give me a minute... I need to pat myself on the back.

You should, that is impressive. Leave your gas neck the way it is because if you come up with something better then I'll have to change mine. I don't need any more work!

It's good to have a plan and acceptable to change it you move along and figure out better ways to do things or change your taste. You've done very well Mr. Mikel50!

  19. Wow. Pictures of builds are so helpful. Thank u for posting. Even with that tank you have a decent amount there. You have helped me with my decision. Even room for those knee pads! Haha

  20. While I have never minded the fuel filler on my 53 3100 sticking out, and I didn’t mind the way you had it sticking out the back, now I’m curious where you are going with that also...keep those pics coming. I can’t wait to start documenting mine.

Lookin real good Mike lots of work in the rear couple feet of that car, not a lot of people would have the patience to figure that all out.

25 years of Motocross I’ve had both my ACL’s repaired 1 MCL and a Meniscus torn.
I practically wake up in the morning every day and put my knee pads on if I’m working on anything.
    Getting old is fun

Just one cut and a weld and it will be remedied...I think.
It will exit the same place, just parallel with the body.

If I understand correctly, this will make the gas cap close to the body line instead of the protrusion it has now........that is what I have been thinking would be the best looking way to do it!

This right here is probably the most important and difficult part of a great fabrication. Conceptualization. You have to determine what needs to be done... visualize it in your mind... mock it up to test concept... simplify... THEN create the actual piece.
Mike, as I have seen throughout this build... you got it together.

That has to be one of the biggest compliments anyone building a car could receive.

    Thank you

Got hung up on a job today at lunch so I went home.
Decided to put my idea for the gas filler into reality.
I took the orig filler that comes with the tank and has a lip on it for the clamp.
I cut the flange off of it
    IMG_4357.JPG
    IMG_4361.JPG
I thought if I sliced the tube at roughly 10° on each piece I’d naturally get a 20° angle when I welded them back together.
    So that’s what I did.
    IMG_4360.JPG
Once I got it in place and was happy with the angle of the tube going through the body.
I marked it and cut it down to length

Notice it exits perpendicular to the body but the cap is close to parallel to the body. What I was trying to accomplish
    IMG_4359.JPG
I still need it angled down for filling the tank.
    IMG_4358.JPG
Cut it down 2-1/8" at 10°
    IMG_4362.JPG
With the grommet in place it should work
    IMG_4363.JPG
    Much happier IMG_4364.JPG
