Any one still around.....I was just kind of going through some boxes in my die-cast room looking for something I haven't found yet....and run across some cars that were torn down for rebuilds and not finished up...usually because I didn't have the right part or I just moved on ...well this 32 is from Racing Champions...not to bad of a car, the scale seems off a little , not alot of detail but it did have a very nice black finish on it ...the engine was kind of generic so I opted for a tranplant... thats when I started having problems with the scale the engine is a little larger than 1/25th and 1/24th in some ways but the rest of the car seems pretty close ,all most in between the two... I swapped out the tires and wheels for what's on it now ...the rear wheels I had to build myself from others to get the deep off set that I wanted...then it was put away till I found a engine that fit right....that was s couple years ago ...well it's back on the table and I am putting a engine together that I think will be close enough....I wanted something kind of nasty to go along with the sinister,in the shadows, look crossed with some 60's trends mixed in...so it will be a duel carb ,blower fed 409 / 4spd ...color is to be black with green pearl added to the clear final coats ...the bottom sides of the fenders and the fire wall will be metal flake white with mother of pearl added to the final clear coats...and interior is all white ...that's the plan...so back to work... Jessica got her 40 delivery stuck on the way to work. She works at the Drag City's {Babyland Nursery}. She was a little late, but made it. Then found a mouse!! She's have'n a bad day. lol
Picked up this Tootsietoy Stake truck #748 at the Lakeland Autofest in Florida. Was still in pretty good shape and different from other trucks I have. A little cleaning and paint before I added it to my collection.
Just pulled this one in for repairs...37 Chevy by Fist Gear 2002...its really not to bad for a supply house die-cast...its a bank ..coin slot is in the cooler located in the trunk..also found the missing taillights in there...the car is a little out dated being in the street rod category styles...wouldn't take much to bring it more up to date and more on the traditional style... This one is one of several I inherited from a friend...1959 Chevrolet Elcamino by ERTL...its going to get cleaned and some details taken care of, fixing the chrome that has worn off around the windows...replacing the door handles and mirrors.....I did find a pair of bumpers for it...was thinking about possibly changing out the grill for something else and shaving the handles ...I will look through my bumper and grill inventory and see what I find...there is a continental kit and duel antennas from a same year Impala there also....interesting....who knows.. I see it's got a large trailer hitch on it ...must of been towing something... Sent from my SM-T387V using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
rudestude, I have several models of my real builds. I found one of these First Gear 37's and used it to recreate a full size late 80's build of my 37 Chevy Chopped 2dr sedan that I still drive.
That's really cool....so does the real one , the one you drive , have a cooler in the trunk that you keep your money in...like the die-cast one has????.. Well.....I guess that's probably not the right thing to ask.....I certainly wouldn't want you to start getting your trunk broken into......sorry about that.......humor.. I'm not aware of one...there are some 36-38 Plymouth / Dodge pick-ups and panel trucks and this 4dr convert...maybe you could take one of the Chevrolet's mix it up with the other ones and come up with one....if you wanted to go small Matchbox has the 33 Plymouth 4dr sedan out now...this one is getting a new paint job...good luck...also you could 3-D print one I guess.... I'm sure you could pull it off Phil...die-cast is a bit harder to work with ...as far as cutting and replacing parts....my biggest problem is using a body filler that sticks good to die-cast...this moment I'm working on a 32 radiator shell that's deformed...I'm using dura-glass body filler on it now ...first it was stripped, cleaned, sanded, cleaned, primed, sanded, primed, cleaned, etched primed then spread the filler...now sanding and shaping...so far its good.....will see... A good filler that sticks to diecast zamak is ”Apoxie” look it up it sticks to everything and has about an hour working time. Phil Between 34 and 35 the body changed to more of a rounded 30’s look for later 30’s Mopars It would be a slightly wider body.
I prefer diecast models over plastic when available. Products like JB Weld Epoxy seem to work well with the diecast. It can sometimes make more work when shaping but does minimize the amount of body filler needed for finishing. We had a 37 Chevy Panel truck and a 37 Chevy Kingcab Pickup that my Son now owns. Models were not available for either so I made mine using parts from Ertl trucks allowing me to get fairly close to my full size build.
