The photo that leads the article; in true Cheech and Chong style: "Hey man, is the brake on"? The red T-shirts and white pants stands out, especially the guy with the red socks too. That would have been the time to grow up in; things are so much different now, and not in a good way. JMO. I am Butch/56sedandelivery.
Hello, This was a great article about one of those old photographers from Life Magazine. That magazine had the best equipment with the 4x5 Graflex press cameras, the 2.25 x 2.25 Rolleiflex Twins, the square Hasselblads, and a myriad of top notch cameras. (maybe even those old Leica helped, too.) It was hard to get into that scene even with similar cameras. Kudos to those early photographers, for their tireless efforts to capture history in their own ways. The words LIFE MAGAZINE went a long way for great service and the top notch places for the best shots. Back in those days, it was not a point and shoot, but, breaking out the huge press cameras, getting the camera ready, the fill flash with bulbs, the tripods and ladders. Those guys knew all of the steps necessary items for a good photo shoot. They had to anticipate the action photos, as the next one might not be ready until the camera was ready for the next shot. (slide open the film blocker, shoot, slide in the blocker, remove the film pad, adjust the bellows, flip the rangefinder frame, and break out exposure meter for different shots, etc. ) Jnaki Despite Santa Ana Drags being an hour away, I did not attend any events there. Currently, we drive by the drag strip area almost monthly and notice how it has disappeared. That area is no longer an empty bean field next to a small landing strip. It is one of the busiest set of streets in all of So Cal's big OC.
