    Aircraft appears to be a Douglas DC-2, short lived predicessor to the very prolific DC-3.

    The Spanish mission system placed missions one days horseback ride from each other up and down what is now California. The road that connected the missions was called El Camino Real (The King's Road). Much of Hwy 101 running north and south through California follows the route of El Camino Real. The bells denote that.

    That looks like me and my 'hood pals, only there was no box and little else to hang onto, so now and then someone would slip off "the bus" while making a turn, tumbling onto the asphalt. No helmets, nobody died, nobody got sued.
