its not a cabriolet cowl top, its a closed car cowl, but comparing it yo mine it looks the same. let me know

Dragging this back up from the almost dead- the thread and the car. It's had a few lives with me- it was not mine, then it was mine again, then it wasn't going to be again, but it still is now. It is living in TX now though, as am I. I have been thrashing away and done with the pussy footing around. Not saying I'll be posting all the time here, but the saga continues.

 

Damn. Looky there. You've certainly been productive. Is that a '41 Ford dash ??

Looks great, especially with the new W/S setup and it being raked back. I had to go through the pics twice to see what front end it will have, as one pic shows "spring ahead", but then spotted the 32 taffy axle. Either of which is cool.
Looks great as a channeled cabriolet ...really great

I once was saving web pics of fenderless 32 cabriolets, and quite a few survivors were originally found in Texas and all were channeled, which surprised me a bit. I guess your NY one will fit right in.

Great to hear from you. I have thought about you a lot during this build. With your dedication to authenticity and affinity for the real tradition, including the "ugly stuff". I don't know if you recall an early conversation we had about my plans for the car, but they haven't changed all that much. With everyone naming their cars this or that, I think of this as the "You're doing it all wrong" Cabriolet. That is because (almost with intent to bucking the norm, but mainly because I think it will look great) I am doing what mainstream taste says is wrong.
-I am not unchanneling the car,
-It will have a reverse raked chop (in the window line)
-It will be full fendered,
-It will likely have a track nose with the full fenders
-It will have stoneguards
-It will have the "ugly" spring in front suspension
-It will have 2 unsplit wishbones (or possibly 1/4 ellipticals in the rear)
-Etc. (I'll save some surprises)

It will be pretty unique and I think, a standout. Like many home built hot rods of the day.

I have really enjoyed seeing your Coupriolet come together. You did a great job. Its a really special car.

Funny you mention the channeled cars in TX. I know it is supposed to exclusively be an "East Coast" thing, but there are a ton of channeled cars here in TX, old builds and new. So yes, it will fit right in down here.

I got to see the restored Tweety this past weekend. What a great car, and definitely one that keeps me going pursuing my vision.

Oh, and regarding the front suspension, it will be a combo of the two you have seen. I will either straighten the black taffy dropped axle (its a little wonky) or drop the 35/36 axle of the spring in front setup you have seen. I'm working to get the body back into "one" piece, then focusing on chassis again. The stance will dictate what parts I use where.

No, far from it. Probably sacrilegious to someone but they are from a 1958 Fiat 1200 Turismo Veloce Spyder.



I found them on ebay for cheap and they were compact, had a seat for the side glass, and had a window line that was "workable".

The HAMB is a great educational tool, now we all know the only useful item on a 1958 FIAT is the top iron assembly. Bob
