Hey jeepster, I just wanted to say great series of pictures today. Last week the black and white pictures of Montreal were so dreary I wasn't looking forward to your posts. Red

  8. Did he get a licence plate too?
I decided it was snow on the wheels, I doubt if they are moving very fast to knock it off.
Looks like an older plate to me, can't make it out, but it sure doesn't look modern to me. THAT'S why i decided it was not a modern picture.

    Hello,
When we were very little, we used to ride the Red Car from Long Beach and go to Los Angeles to the 6th and Main St terminal . The Long Beach city bus near our house would drop us off near the Pike. The Red Car would then take us to downtown Los Angeles, through a lot of different communities and locations.

From the main Los Angeles Red Car terminal, it was a short hop to the tall building where my dad worked at 2nd and San Pedro. It was always fun to ride that Red Car to LA. It was rickety and went through some interesting neighborhoods. My mom did not drive back then and we were able to actually ride what looked like a train without the big black engine pulling the car.

Back then, there were a lot of stops, but one could take the old Red Cars from Long Beach and still work in Los Angeles. My dad liked the rail line, but also liked the individuality of being able to drive when ever he wanted. The open road to and from work, instead of a rail car doing the navigating.

In the downtown areas, the trick was to stand on the sidewalk until the big Red Car came into view. The loading zone was in the middle of street, but we pedestrians had the right of way waiting and loading. Dropping off on the street was always a long wait for the drivers of the cars.

Henri Novo's yard, in France. The car they are looking at, a Bugatti type 38A, survives.

I thought so but I also thought the car four cars back may also survive. Not really sure but I thought that is a Type 50. The one two cars back looks like another high dollar car although Identifying Bugattis is not my expertise.

  12. A Steiner cabin on Mt Hood, Oregon, built 1938 - we had one of the last log cabins Henry Steiner built in Government Camp (early 40's)... the new owner tore it down.
