That is a famous Aussie early custom done on an FJ Holden. Started as a 4 door sedan. Built by Bob Moule

Just so the rest can appreciate the Miller race cars that Speedwrench and Brass car guy were referring here is an identical car to one of the two cars brought back from France in 1959. As it was at Indy and then as it sits today. durayindy500.jpg

The original picture of what some may incorrectly label as cars with patina (only several Bugattis I believe), it struck a nerve as I grew up with cars in similar shape (although not as pricey maybe) but with dust and cosmolene, since my grandfather was a large collector. Here are some cars undergoing museum restorations in the 60s with hot rodders in many cases that my grandfather hired. The cars would often be lifted with the front wheels up on 55 gallon drum so we could get underneath and remove the grease and grime. Actually it was a fun place. I believe that is me over on the right side of the photo.

In the sake of accuracy the #18 car was driven at Indy by Ralph Hepburn but the cars were pretty much identical.

You got me on this one, Rootie. Looks like a Championship car running with a sprint car but I have no idea where.

    Any info on this one?

    Thanks.

Actually there both ex- Champ cars, both owned by local racer Gordon Herring that he bought from the Whittingtons late 50s. The #37 is the former Hinkle/McGrath car that he was killed in at Phx. and the #36 is the ex Blakely Oil Schroeder built car. I believe that is Herring in the 37 but I'm not sure who's in the 36. I believe the pic was probably taken at Englewood Speedway, Denver, circa 1960.

Even as dangerous as the San Fernando Drag Strip was, I loved watching the races at "the Pond"...

Somewhat certain the one on the right was featured on a true crime show....dad took his bike away for not using the stand and the kid went on a murderous rampage at an old folks home.... 1 a bk2.jpg

What a tragic end. Someone opened the back gate and swung it into his path while qualifying.
