only 3 ways in and out of florence, it either went north, south or east, i used to live there. unfortunately i think this cars headed 1 of 2 ways, exported or painted with new vin plates, i dont think its worth it for parts, lotta risk with a bunch of parts that you need the right guy to buy, i think theives are inherently dumb though and im still hoping the kne spotted in aumsville is the same car. it was a car guy who spotted it and he knows the difference between a 55 and a 56 and with those same colors? in the same condition? slim chances theres another one that close

 

Sorry to hear - hope it's recovered intach....took 5 yrs to find my 2+2 the second time it was stole.....sold it and bought my 39 coupe.

 

It looks like the thieves went to a lot of work to get that particular car making it the target of the theft rather than a theft of opportunity.

Rowland said the fence around the property had a hole in it from an unrelated incident and that's likely how thieves were able to remove the car.

The thieves probably spent hours at the barn before driving off with the car, she said. Whoever stole the car had to move other vehicles and use a floor jack to get the Chevy out of the barn.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lane County Sheriff’s Office at 541-682-4150.
Someone went to that "barn" specifically to steal that car. I'd think that the owner might have a viable reason to believe that the car is stashed locally too. Or at least the thief had local connections.

This says whoever took it knew exactly what it was and had someone waiting for it. Hope it gets found, but probably on it's way overseas...

 

Keeping an eye out for it in NC.

 

I hope that they catch the person or persons involved before something bad happens to the car, and that they do time in jail for a real long time.

I hate to say or act this way , but I will loose all my cool on an Azzhole , that is caught stealing something . My realitives had 4 huge AC units stolen from some drug addicted freaks . I caught them red handed . I had to go to court to help and see him sent to the county farm for a few years . His family threatened me , that was it ! They were thinkin they were real tough guys . We sorted out the men from the boys , and I think they understood they pushed the PANIC on one crazy SOB . I’m generally a mild chuckling person , but this uncapped the drum of woop ass . I’m here to help you anyway I can , and I can travel . I have zero use for a low life that steals from a hard working person . I will give someone anything I own that I’m not using to help them , there is no reason to steal . The way I see it is , these Bastards , are stealing the air the rest of us honest God fearing people could be enjoying . I’m sorry , to rant but I have lived it , and it sucks x10 . Good Luck and I hope your car is returned as taken safely .

Maybe the Saudi's have a good idea. Lop off the right hand of thieves caught for the first time, left for the second time. At least we'd know who they were.

 

To have spent hours in the building getting the car ready to move, somebody must have been watching you as a lookout.

 

Same $hit different day. So he didn't steal it, possession is still 9/10 of the law and he should be treated as a horse thief, HUNG by the neck until dead.

Only problem with that scenario here is then they would collect disability. HANG THEM.

 

these people would learn a reeeeaaal good lesson if a good ol boy caught em at it with a nice length of pipe in hand.... when buddy car thief walks crooked for the rest of his life and he eats through a straw for 6 months he would think long n hard about stealin anymore, especially when he tells him if he ever hears of him stealin again he will find him and finish the job. buddy car thief would get a job as a cashier at the dollar tree and mind his p's and q's

Looks like there is no word but a few things come to mind.
The thief or someone connected to the thief knew the car owner's movements pretty well. You don't spend several hours in a buiding moving cars around to get to a car unless you know pretty well positively that no one is going to go to the building.
The target of the theft was that specific car and there could be several reasons.
1. sold to an out of country buyer where paperwork might not be a huge issue.
2. Stolen as someone mentioned with the expressed intent to swap the vin plates and pass it off as a different vehicle.
3. same line of thinking but stolen by or for someone who has a pretty much hulk 55 of the same model that needs a serous amount of work. All the sudden you hear that that guy over in ________ who has had that roached out 55 that he has been dinking with is making hellatious progress.
4. there was shop owner in the middle of Oregon a few years ago who figured out that the way to increase his profit level was to steal a damned nice car as a donor to customers cars and swap as many parts as possible. Maybe there is another one floating around.

Could be that someone who had been in the building was overhear blabbing about what was in the building and about the movements of the owner. As a rule I don't have people I don't know come to the house to pick up items that I can stick in the trunk and meet them at a spot in town with. I don't get my nose out of joint if a seller suggests the same and just met a guy who sold me a tool at and AM-PM parking lot a week ago. if someone does come to the house to pick up somethng that is too large to drag to town they don't get the nickle tour either. There is no need to show my stuff to anyone I don't know and trust.

 

or....insurance... values down, bigger payout this way... not accusing, no proof but a viable option

 

So, now that we're in this frame of mind, all pissed off because he had a nice car stolen, let me ask a question...............
right now, what do you think about the guys at the swap meet, or online,etc., selling titles and vin #'s.
I understand there aere legitimate reasons why a person could end up with a no title car, but then there's this.

 

Also, isn't there an issue with 55 Chev's being the one year and make that they used engine serial numbers in lieu of vin #'s..........which creates the problem of vehicle id when the engine is swapped. I've got a friend here in Texas trying to sell his 55, but the numbers don't match the paperwork. There's a lawyer around here somewhere that groups up guys doing that same legal shit to keep costs down. Apparently there's a large fee charged by the government agency that issues the 55 replacement serial numbers to "get them in that mode", and that one time fee doesn't change with the number of applicants, so getting a group together, they can divide up that cost. Sounds crazy, but that's what I was told.
Edit: thinking about it, it's probably just a Texas issue, and I don't know why it would be limited to only Chevs.

Like most posters I am also passionate about thievery and what I think should be done to thieves when they are caught. Venting our frustrations and talking about it doesn’t get the job done though. The best thing to do would be to post as many details and detailed pics of the car as you can. Interior shots, engine shots, inside the trunk, etc. We’re car guys and we recognize shit when we see it. If I recall correctly, there have been other stolen cars recovered because a HAMBer recognized it. I would love to get this guy’s car back. Post the details, if you’ve got em.

How many cars would have to be moved to take hours to move with a floor jack? That '55 sticks out like a sore thumb, a thief would have to be insane to drive it away, and any LEO who saw it would have noticed it for sure.

A little background for you: in order to prove a charge of auto theft one needs to prove that someone stole the vehicle. The fact that someone is driving around in it does not prove that the person actually committed the theft.
Not in Maryland. You get caught in possession of the vehicle, you stole it. Felony theft.

 

I was hoping we had good news on this but see it is still missing.

I agree that they knew it was there so it was someone that the owner knows or let in the shed to do some other work and saw it. I also wonder about the previous fence damage? was this actually done on purpose before hand so they had an easier entrance and exit without being noticed when that specific theft day approached thinking this would give them a few days lead way before it being discovered?

I sell a lot online and I actually like meeting the people here so I can keep working but I usually have anything posted in an extra camping trailer outside my shop. Anything big then they just get just inside the main shop door but don't see any of my extra parts or main cars stored in the other section and I always have a half eaten rawhide dog bone, fresh bowl of water and food right by the parts and if they say anything I just tell them I have the Dobermans locked up in back because I knew they were coming but I leave them run around loose otherwise especially at night. Guess what? I haven't had the dogs for a couple of years but strangers don't know that.

People that know me know I don't have my Dobermans anymore(had 9 at one time) but what they don't know except a few very close friends is I have everything on camera and only way to my shop is up my driveway which has a camera on it too. With the layout of my driveway with the curve, I get the front and side view of the vehicle and when it leaves I get the back and the other side view so I get all 4 sides and I can zoom in and get the plate if needed .

Notice I don't trust anyone anymore not even friends. You find out which friends take advantage of your stuff when you are not home when they don't realize they are actually being watched.

 

A friend of mine had dogs. They just shot the dogs and took what they wanted .
