I got a call to look at some crusty pieces today and saw this pickup bed. I've never seen anything like it so I'm hoping for an ID from the powers that know. The fenders were torched off, but the way the bed sides flare into the fender opening is something I've just never seen before...and the back has a curve to it...not squared off like most of the era. I'm pretty sure it's available. Thanks!

Definitely a 1937-39 Studebaker Coupe Express bed. Though the bed was a separate unit, the passenger car-based cab and chassis makes these the precursor of the El Camino/Ranchero.
Cool find. I'd narrow it to fit right up against the back of a 28/9 Model A Roadster cab and fit a Ford script tailgate.
Yep, one year only, 1940. My heap is actually a '38 but the much more mundane stock bed was in bad shape and another Hamber had a '40 bed. I still need to figure out a bumper or something, it's pretty slab sided behind the wheels. The battery is there under the bed on one side, tool storage on the other.
Studebaker Coupe Express. Hate to see that cut up. You might want to check on the value of one of those.
Holy smokes! I am so glad to see this thread...reason being, in December I was going for a walk through a small town in rural Baja. I spotted a trailer in someone's back yard, made out of what appeared to be a pickup bed with rounded corners, something I'd never seen before. The fenders were a swept-back late 30s style, and had been partially torched off. I was leaning over the wall and just pulling my camera out when 3 large angry dogs barreled around the corner to scare the nosy gringo off Got home and searched online for a couple hours, thinking maybe Hudson or one of the other car-based trucks, but didn't find a match. Boom, there it is, Studebaker Coupe Express. Neato!!

That 38 Studebaker bed is really cool looking standing alone. That curve above the fender is really neat in my opinion. I wonder if it could be made to actually look "right" on a 1930's-40's pickup that isn't a Studebaker... or if it would just look out of place. Not that I'm against the Studebaker pick-up that looks like a Australian Ute, but, just kind of wondering out loud.
Obviously you can't stump the Hamb for very long. Let us know if you save it. It would be a shame for something like that to be lost.
UPDATE! Got it home today. Sides and front are pretty darn straight. Snagged a DeSoto or Dodge cowl wall hanger to boot.
Can I post a couple of pic's of rear fenders I have from around 1930's that somebody could tell me what they are from???
The reason you find dodges is because there like mildue in the shower they just appear and multiply ! And would you look at that found a dodge part there to !!
