Well, I'm always a little late to the party. There are already several photo threads out there, and it's hard to compete with the likes of @Tom davison and @Michaelcozman both of whom have posted outstanding photos. But here is my attempt at the art.

I've recently upgraded my gear, and this was the first time out with it, so I was a little apprehensive of how things would turn out, and I know I have a lot more to learn, but I'm really happy with what I got. Compared to my previous camera, the detail available with this new one is just incredible. I'm still working my way through the hundreds of photos I took, so I'll post up what I have available now, and then I'll post more as I work my way through them.

I'm starting with photos from the Drive In. I took my 47 coupe, got there before the sun was up and got in line, then as the sun came up I got out and started shooting.

So after a couple of hours of hanging out, shooting pics and shooting the shit with the other guys/gals they moved us in. As I drove in through the gate they motioned me to turn and follow the other cars into a big parking lot, but I requested to park near the Suede Palace, so they let me turn left and drive over there, but before I got there the next guy directed me to park on the grass lawn by the toilets. Which actually turned out to be a great site, right next to some buddies I've made at some local car cruises and got to know a little better via Instagram. And the car looked great parked on the green lawn. A few minutes later a white 48 coupe parked next to me. Not a bad spot, everyone needs to use the John, and they have to walk past my coupe to get there.

The guys with the awning are the guys I've met at local cruises. Shiney does some metal polishing, and drives the Stude sedan pictured below.

The guy with the A roadster, his dad built this car. He has pictures of him as a young kid hanging around in the car. IT's gone thru several different stages, I think the first V8 was a flathead, but the small block has been in there for decades. It's a great story of a 2nd generation hot rod.
    DSC_0185.jpg DSC_0186.jpg DSC_0188.jpg DSC_0189.jpg
Overall not a bad spot, the green grass makes for nice photos. The Suede Palace is the building about straight ahead from my coupe, just to the right, with the rounded roof. We'll go over there next.

Pretty cool Chevy coupe. A little rat roddish, but not too much. All the wood in the body looks like it was replaced with square metal tube.

    OMG was this Caddy beautiful!

OK, on to the Suede Palace. Side note, man, I've got to get a contact to get early entry so I can take photos before the crowds show up. How are these guys getting in on set up day?

Anyway, on to the pics. First up is this uber cool 5 window coupe, a local So Cal guy, I've been on some rod runs with, and am friends with on Instagram; he also has a beautiful 40 Zephyr custom.

Thanks for the great pictures, I enjoy the inside shots of all the cars/trucks that everyone else shoots but yours are much more interesting to me.

Thank you, the Drive In part of the show is an important part of the whole experience. I wanted to show that part of it as well as the inside parts.

Thank you okiedokie, I try to put my own perspective in my shots, try to have something a little different than the others that are posting photos.

I like the shots because they haven't been "Messed with". Some other shooters use all kinds of "enhancements" that to me detract from the shots. :)

Thanks for sharing. One of my favorites is the '58 Eldorado shot. The touch of 'rat' on the hood's finish is ,"Fascinating", to quote Leonard Nimoy's famous character ; Not to minimize flawless paint any.

Suede Palace is a good deal if you qualify. Gotta send pics and $150.00. Gets you "Set-up Thursday", and early entry Fri., Sat. and Sun.....for two folks plus free parking all days, less than if you paid "retail" for all that. If you are not selected, you get your money back.
    Here's mine, which you almost got.... IMG_0631.JPG

I agree. I hate to criticize anything about the Suede Palace, because it is such a great show. But a little more suede would be nice.

Unfortunately I don't think either of my cars would be accepted. I'm OK with doing the Drive In, I like it actually. I see other photog's get early access, just wondering how they get it, but I'm sure they have the right connections.

OK, back to the Suede Palace to finish this off before heading outside and into some other buildings.

Another local guy, I've met at several local car cruises, not in this roadster though, he also has a beautiful Model A coupe that was in the Model A building he takes on the rod runs. I'll post pics of it later. Some of you may know him, he goes by Hot Head Lou.

Great Shots! You did very well with your new equipment. You can't worry too much about getting people included in your pictures. It's a car show and the people make it as interesting as the vehicles if you ask me. Thanks for posting. Joe

It's Super Bowl Sunday, but I have no interest in the NFL, and it seems quite a few are posting here on the HAMB, so I'll update this thread with more pics.

Last time I posted I was in the Suede Palace after making my way there from my parking spot on the lawn. Now I'm headed outside on my way to the Model A building. Here's what I captured on the way.

I love this Model A, the owner was sitting in his chair behind it and I struck up a conversation, and he was more than happy to tell me about it. He built the car years ago with his boys when they were younger and still at home. Not they're grown and out of the house, but he still has the car. The car is loaded with cool bits, and he did them all, even dropped the axle himself. I was attracted at first by the hemi, but then all the other cool bits really won me over. This is hot rodding right here.
    DSC_0356.jpg DSC_0357.jpg DSC_0358.jpg

The steering wheel he found on a fishing trip to Alaska. I forget the mame/year, maybe one of you can ID it, but they ran across an abandoned car on the trip, and he pulled the wheel out of it and brought it home in his luggage.

Here's a couple of local boys, the black #7 and the blue coupe with the 4x2 intake on a SBF. I've been on a couple of local rod runs with these guys, and am Instagram friends with them.
    DSC_0364.jpg DSC_0365.jpg DSC_0366.jpg DSC_0368.jpg DSC_0369.jpg

This roadster has a blown slant 4. Can anyone ID the engine. A bunch of us were standing around trying to figure it out. 1 guy said it was a small block V8 sawed in half, I didn't buy that.

Hey Bob, same here. I haven't even gotten to the Model A building yet, that's next. That was an incredible display, I probably spent most of my time there. I think I got a couple of shots of your Chevy too, I'll post them up later if they came out any good (haven't looked at them yet).
