I'm no expert. Thanks for the clarification. It was just a pic I grabbed off of the old interweb.

Yessir, that's the correct factory-installed stock Turnpike wheel.
I'm thinking I want to buy another Turnpike and keep it this time.

I picked this one up for the roadster pickup project. Bought it out of a buddy's garage, we both think it probably used to be a boat wheel. The wheel fits perfect on a Ford steering column. Kind of hard to see in the picture, but the dark sections have some killer gold metal flake going on. I need to figure out what is going on with the wheel center, as it is more a trinagle than round. Either it has shrunk into that triangle shape, or it was always that way. Need to gently massage it back to a more round shape, and put a chrome bullet in the middle.

  12. I've always like the shape of a 1942 Hudson Commodore wheel.

  13. I know that every steering wheel picture thread eventually has pictures of these weird Citroen steering wheels posted, but I still think they could look amazing in the right hotrod or custom.

How about this mess? I'll revisit this topic when I get it painted and share my 'trick on the eyes' way of wheel paint. Seems an appropriate spot for it.

Some of the deeper repairs were JB Weld. For the more cosmetic needs I used panel bond, the same stuff new cars are glued together with, also used to repair rigid plastic parts like dually fenders and such. Sets up in about 30 min so there's time to shape it as needed, and I figured if it's for body panels it ought to hold up on a steering wheel just fine.

Then the family wheel that is in all the other cars is the GM Comfort Grip wheel. There is always a spare one or two on the shelves.

Looks like 1948 model year of Dodge - I have the very same in my 1948.
However, you've painted the tan steering wheel pearl white, right?

My dad's got one hanging somewhere in his garage.

This would suit the style of my moribund project better:

Funny, my car was marked model 1946 in the Illinois DMV Title as I bought it.
However, Chrysler Corp. told it was one of the last D24's made in Detroit acc.to serial number, actually rolled out in Jan.1949.
Apparently it was originally sold and titled somewhere in mid-west and re-titled in Illinois in early 80's, then got the false year of manufacture in the title.
I corrected the age as I registered it in Finland - it's registered as a 1948 model now.
