Several years ago I attended an auction of original Willys coupes in South Eastern Illinois and foolishly sat on my hands as I watched the bidders battle it out over the cars . Now I just kick myself for not joining in the fight . I just recently posted in the wanted section looking for a car but based on the number of people looking for these cars its worse than looking for 1932-36 Ford 3 window coupes , and to make matters worse 20 years ago had a fair orange 40 Willys coupe with a Chev V8 and a powerglide trans. Wasn't a great car and had some issues but it ran and drove sold it to somebody in Fla for $12000 Oh well !

Yes they are very difficult to find and usually very expensive when you do and sell quick. Do you have any pictures of the one that you sold? Maybe you could locate the new owner somehow and try to buy it back.

I think the prices are moderating a bit lately. My buddy has a blown big block 40 steel Willys coupe. A serious piece of hardware for sure and in nice shape but no takers at $50k. Not even any lookers. Hard for the average guy to justify $50k for a car these days that you can only drive part time really.

1/28/19 - Guys I need to edit my post. I misspoke on the price mentioned above. I thought he had said he was asking $50k but it was actually $60k and open to discussion. That is my fault and I am sorry if it caused any complications for anybody interested in checking the car out.

Jim is our resident miracle worker on the Hamb. His builds are epic.He just finished the car and learned he has to have open heart surgery.I just brought his post on the car back up so you could see it.I also sent him a personal message telling him about your desire to purchase a coupe.

  12. Unfortunately or maybe not so unfortunate ..... it recently sold on Ebay. Who knows ? Perhaps a snag could happen with the last bidder ???

As long as Jim is happy in the end .... the extremely lucky person buying the Willys matters not.

Yes,good taste.Few and far between I'm afraid.Be very careful of scammers now that you have put an add in the wanteds.See, and feel the car before commiting to anything.Lots of vultures out there.

I see your in the town where Toms coupe resided.i was at the auction your reffering to those cars were rough shape and went high.the gold coupe was so bad it was rusted through on windshield garnish moulding.it was the roughest coupe I've found in 35 years of chasing these willys.it still brought 35k needing everything it was even rusted through on rear inner fenders.
