I'm looking into covering my dash with the furry material I've seen used on cars here in the past. I've seen rear package trays done this way but, never a dash. I know this material readily available at material stores. Is there a reason as to why this is that I'm not catching? A factory replacement dash pad for mine would be very costly and, in keeping with tradition, I'd like to do something home grown so speak with my on twist in things. Any input on this will be greatly appreciated.

Why? I always thought they looked cheap...

  4. I used funfur on a headliner years ago
Easy to find at any fabric store

  5. When I bought my Model A pickup project the headliner was covered with tacky blue fake fur, it looked like the cheesy bathroom floor rugs, it took me about 5 minutes to rip all that crap out.

I remember seeing this stuff in show cars that were never driven back in the late 50's & early 60's and then I saw the fake fur again during the custom van crazy in the 70's.

To be honest I don't care for it, but it's your car. HRP

Couldn't you just find a road kill skunk the had been squashed flat by 20 or so 18 wheelers, and glue the hide to your dash?

A Furry Dash is the last thing I'd put on any car. Looks like SHIT. You usually see Furry Dashes along with red Dingle Berries above the windows.

This is a valid question all joking aside the Custom Members or Upholsterers may have the best Suggestions...Many feel that the Hamb is only Hotrod and we are not so the absolute negativity is unwarranted...this was all the rage in the early to mid sixties custom scene and has its place of course.

@Puka have you looked at the sixties everything thread below?

Looked like crap then and looks like crap now. Why would you want to "flock" up your ride?

    Chia dash. Just add water.

  19. Everybody has the right to "do to" their vehicles whatever they want and there are no wrong choices. I say that knowing that fake fur (or real fur) isn't a choice I'll ever make. I do have a friend with his dash covered in fake fur and I still drink with him.

I did that once, but I eventually got over it.
Just do it and get it out of your system.

I remember being a youngster and I guy I knew had a 53 Chevy 2 door and everything was fur except the seats. Head liner, dash, door panels and even the kick panels were black fur. Spent a lot of hours riding in that car.

I say go for it!! It's your ride so enjoy ;)

  23. Do it and show us the result. Don't let the naysayers who obviously have found a warm place to live here in the Custom forum discourage you.
I think in the right car it looks good. And you are right, it is traditional way to get a custom dashboard without spending tons of money.

  27. The hamb, be it hot rod or custom is a open forum and in that light everything is up for public discussion, we all are entitled to our own opinion.

Like you I encourage the member to go ahead and do it since it's his car and he is the only one that has to be happy with the results. HRP

I love the early 60s designs (The Munsters, The Monkees, Barris, Watson, etc. I draw inspiration from old stories and pics all the time. not everyones cup of tea, but if you love it and you love your car...thats all that matters...
