Every year we here on the HAMB speculate about the GNRS winner. This year it sure looks like it'll be close between the Moal/Howerton roadster and Poteet's 36 roadster. I don't see anything else that's close. It's been fun watching the 36 over the years going together at Pinkee's shop. We'll see?

Don't bet on it. We all judge these cars by HAMB standards, but the real judges do not. My picks rarely win. Look back at some of the past winners and you'll see some that we here would hate.

    The '36 hands-down winner. But I'm partial to 36's

My heart and everything I have wants it to be Jim Govro's 32. The fact that that car is even there is amazing. And honestly I got goosebumps seeing it finished and in perfect shape 60 years after it's feature in Rodding and Restyling.

I'd agree With Graystoke, my pick seldom wins. I'd have to think that the judges are far more into real cars that can actually be driven and driven for a distance now than what we saw several years ago though.
I can dig the race car thing but to me AMBR means a roadster that can and will eventually be driven. I remember one of those outlandish show rods from a few years ago that is probably languishing in the back room of some warehouse that had seats while being works of art looked so uncomfortable to drive on that the car will never get driven any further than from the trailer to the parking spot at an event.
Side note: late Thursday or early Friday how ever you look at it.
I watched all of the videos that Rodder's journal and now really can understand where the Moal/Howerton roadster is coming from. Howerton is quite a character and It is that dream dirt track roadster that evolved more than a little bit. Not something you want to drive across the southwest states from LA to Austin in the middle of August in though.

It is time to post photos of all the contenders! Can't make it this year so photos will have to do. I've never picked a winner, but never was unhappy with what was picked in the last few years. Good luck to everyone. Bob

For all you no-low tech guys out there, occasionally there are good things on facebook. Rodders Journal reporter Thom was there yesterday documenting all the roadsters that have arrived and were judged. Evidently there were two cars still in transit that they voted to allowed to enter past the 4:00pm deadline.
So far I agree with Krylon.

I'm going to be careful how I ask this question, and it is based on my two trips to the GNRS, 2016 & 2018. Why is it that there are cars that at a quick glance are not going to make it, and there are 6-8 cars outside that look far better? When do the car owners apply for the next GNRS and how are they selected? Bob

Will they add all the others, or is there another site with all the GNRS entries?

I didn't like last years winner, and I sorta know the builder.
Too many ideas that didn't really fit each other.

It'd be cool if Cory Taulbert's deuce roadster won with 19,000 miles on it.

Maybe this year, it will be something with rock chips in the paint from being driven and seats that look like somebody enjoyed the ride.

I first saw that black roadster at the hill climb in 2016. A stand out in a sea of black 32 roadsters. [IMG]

Maybe the HIGH TECH guys can find photos of all contenders & post them for us to see how smart you are. :)
