    Hey LBCD,
Nice thread for us old photographers. The digital camera format makes it a lot easier to get quality photos for screen savers on home computers and laptops. No more copied photos, just dust, clean and save real photos to the old hard drive. But, for us old Ektachrome color slide fanatics and old guys, those old 35mm color slides still ring true in format and quality.

I have been editing and writing on an old laptop that was given to me from my wife. It was new back in 2013 and was purchased for use by her then, 93 year old dad. But, as those oldest guys are, somehow, it got frozen, locked and was dead as a doornail. (If doornails can be dead.) So, how does someone do this to a new 17 inch laptop?

At any rate, my son, the computer guy, told us to get a Chromebook and that his grandpa cannot screw up that laptop. If thousands of school kids cannot screw up Chromebooks, then a 93 year old coot certainly cannot.

Since I have loved drawing flames all of my life, here is one 35mm Ektachrome photograph I took over 49+ years ago at a Los Angeles car show. I am sure it was an R.G. Canning sponsored show held the Sports Arena near the famous Coliseum. It is on the 17 inch laptop as a screen saver on a rotating basis. There are others, but this one is colorful and reminds me of those early days of learning how to draw flames, starting with a row of “SSSSS” letters in all shapes and angles.

I spent almost a week, cleaning, using several computer programs and discs to get this laptop up and running. Even though it is one that I would not have purchased because of what is inside powering the unit, it works. It has kept up with my constant writing, editing and loading/transferring my photos/movies to other external hard drives and people. But, as age does wonders to all of us, it is time to move on to another better Hot Rod laptop.

It is on to a special order laptop that I have been craving for a year. Like old hot rod/drag race guys, more power makes it go faster. In this case it triples the internal speed, graphics and file handling for the ultimate hot rod laptop, screen saver included. My next rotating screen saver will be one from the 2.25 inch Ektachrome files of old hot rods. Clarity on the laptop/home computer screen makes it worthwhile. No copied photos, just real life ones with quality developing from the old days.

So where is this 17 inch laptop going after it is cleaned up? My niece is married to a hot rod guy and their toddler son is one mechanical little genius. At this stage of his life, he can probably take apart one of our old Matchbox cars, (we gave him two cases full of Matchbox and Hot Wheels cars) paint it and put it back together for a new drive or “roll” in his case. He can almost carry the 17 inch laptop as it is huge for him.

    "Pay It Forward" brings rewards...

The Chromebook went to our niece's other, HS graduating, son as he needed something for those upcoming college assignments.

  11. I have a screen saver file that consist's of pictures that I have stolen off the web of hot rods and customs that I like, some pictures that I have taken and a few sketches. There are, currently, 125 of them that are set as a slideshow and change every couple of minutes. 33988225_10210263022326599_6647135702209265664_n.jpg StrayKat 500 2018 (1).jpg user45881_pic298615_1307535852.jpg 15203353_10211097435622711_6395552802347221700_n.jpg 10336653_536410879803733_10928359620756634_n.jpg 533513_488148814541127_1734111732_n.jpg
