Any '50s Lincoln Y-block experts?

I recently came across a Ford Industrial 317" engine which is based upon the '52-63 Lincoln Y-Block 279-302-332-317-341-368. I found this site, <cite>www.ford-y-block.com/lincoln-y.htm </cite>but they didn't answer my e-mail.

Before it goes to the scrapper, anything we should know about it? Anyone ever used on in a rod?

They are harder to find parts for than your standard Y-block (much harder). but it is still worth saving from the scrappers. Y-block have a very good sound to them and they look great.

 

Do not scrap it.

If its a truck engine it has a steel crank that can be welded on, people pay MONEY for that.

Should also have ramhorns, higher rise intake, and the rear sump oil pick up and pan.

 

Yup, after Lincoln's went to the 430 the Lincoln Y block was used in trucks. They're tough to find and very torquey.

Don't scrap it!

 

Jack; I have a 368 Linclon. They look resaonable to me. I bet it would be faster than my Packard was. I have a cam blank for it and a aluminum flywheel. SBC injection looks pretty easy to fit. FE scatershield is said to work. To bad you didn't have yours when you picked up the Packs.

 

( Rich, didn't know you was that kind of guy. So, now that I've bought the world's fastest Packard V8, it's junk and the Lincoln is gold? ;>)

Anyway, Rich, I'd have gladly brought this Lincoln 317" down to you and traded for that injection primer pump. Need any parts? It has a 4-bbl intake. If it has a forged steel 3.50" crankshaft, would you want that?

Let me think about the crank. I would sure have traded it for the primer and solenoid & relay. Yes. That crank would make my 368 a nice 362 with a 1/16 bore. Another good "C" size engine. I like it.

 

I have a 54 lincoln and 56 Olds intake manifolds laying side by side and the ports and heat risers match almost perfect

the lincoln y-blocks are actually very cool and rarely seen in hot rods. The 368 from the 56-57 Lincoln Marks had the coolest cast valve covers EVER put on a car in my opinion. You can occassionally find some speed parts too like Edmunds 2x2 and 2x4 intakes, cam blanks, magnetos, etc... and like guys mentioned, other intakes can be made to work.

 

Jack, you of all folks should be preserving and treasuring these orphan early V-8s. If it is a runner it would be a shame to scrap it.Is the 4bbl the early teapot pattern or the later Holley. None of the 3.5 stroke cranks are forged as far as I know, only the 3.66 Truck cranks. They also have the longest V-8 stock rod I know of 7.06.

...I'm with scoob on this. The '56/'57 368 cu in engine is way under appreciated and has the guts and the glory to steal your heart away. I've got a complete stock drivetrain from a '56 Lincoln under my '46 Lincoln kustom (avatar) and it hauls ass and looks great.
Save that motor from the scrappers.....

Heck if it's got Lincoln Script Valve covers you could make enough profit to rebuild an SBC

 

have one in my 53 never had a v8 that is so dependable,drives me everywhere with 140km/h behind is a 4 sped automatic

These Lincoln Y blocks are big engines, but good ones. I have one in my 54 Lincoln, that probably could use a rebuild, along with a couple spares. I also have a 368 that will have a dual range hydro mated to it and installed in my 57 Ford F-100 push truck.

Those ram horns sound very interesting, will need to look them up.

 

Heres some pictures of my 368 in my 53. Valve covers were already butchered with the breathers when I got the core motor. .040 over, balanced, isky 270 cam, modified FE bellhousing and flywheel, 4 speed top loader trans from a big block Mustang.

Hi, I know this is crazy given that the post is 7 years old but do you still have that motor for sale and would you be willing to part with the crank and intake? I’m rebuilding a 317 and I could really use a 4 barrel intake. Thanks!

 

I don't have a intake. But I may have a crank. Depending on what happens tomorrow.

 

I have a stock 4 barrel with the original carb for a 368 if your interested ( I'm going with a 2-4 intake, pm me)
