There's a line in the song " the stingrays light the slicks are starting to spin but the 413s really diggin' in." Game over! I've seen too many big Mopars catch my Chevy right before the 1/4 mile mark. Always had them on the hole shot but they would finish strong
Sunbeam your half correct. The dodge version was as you stated called ramcharger. The Plymouth version was super stock. Both brands displayed their names on the valve covers. They both Shared the beautiful Omaha orange paint. The dodge engineers formed a club called the ramchargers. The Plymouth group of engineers formed the golden commandos club.
The 11.0:1-compression Max Wedge had 410 bhp and 460 lb-ft of torque, the 13.5:1 variant made 420 bhp and 470 lb-ft. This in 1962 for the Dodge Super Stock.... Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
I started as a Chevy guy. There was a group of Dodge guys that dominated the drag scene there. My 57 Chevy, that I put a 455 Olds in, nor my big block Camaro stood a chance against the Dodge guys. I eventually converted.... Chevies are good looking cars, and have the best aftermarket known to man to make power with. But a stock on stock comparison, I go with the Mopar. I have built both for years, and I wish that Mopar had more aftermarket speed parts available. Especially new Engine blocks. There are a few available, but most for racing. I want to say I saw one at Herb McCandless’ shop/museum last year. If you’re in to Mopar history, a visit there should be on your to do list. Sent from my iPad using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
That is on my bucket list.... Along with the Ford museum and etc. I love America and all its history with the cars/trucks made here. Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
In the original version the 413 actually won, however Brian was forced to rewrite the ending when the record execs saw the album cover with a '62 Dart. A few if these rare album covers still exist.
Meant to say a corvette chassis WAS NOT very good for drag racing. Sent from my VS500 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
If his slicks would not have been spinning, he probably would have seen his rear wheel with part of a half shaft attached flying by him! Any stock rear Vette guy knows , you roll her out to 15-20 MPH then wail on her. I think this race would be all about what rear gears , each of them were runnin’... and I am not biased... Your correct. It was in later years jenkens used a destroked 400. I knew a guy that had 540 cubes in a chrysler product back in the day. Jerry Flippo. had a shop in a little town Of Portia Ark. He bored into the water jackets and used cut down tractor sleeves.
I cannot tell a lie, I made that up. As the story goes, to promote the Shut Down album the Wilsons and Jardine were given sleek new Sting Ray Vettes with which to hit the beaches and strips of So Cal, while Mike Love, due to his prematurely receding hairline, opted for the hardtop SS Dodge. Unfortunately 413 Darts were in short supply, resulting in his receiving a slant 6 model. Struggling to keep up with his band mates and with few bikini clad teenage hotties eager to hop in for a ride, he carried the animosity for this misfortune for the rest of his Beach Boys career.
Oh my... Yep, the Corvette recipients definitely had better a chance with the ladies.... Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
it's 2019 fellas. it does not matter who would win at the track but rather who would win at Barrett Jackson. these are no longer cars but a part of someones investment portfolio.
Boy ain't that the truth! Ruined the hobby for those of us that love our cars seeking affordable parts. I am not a flipper, I believe in keeping the hobby affordable for us common folks that desire to build a car of our dreams... I keep all the crap that I buy in fear of not being able to locate it again at a price that I can afford. Perhaps someday, I will have the fleet cobbled together and I can try to sell off my extra parts.... Yeah right... Who am I kidding?? LOL Sent from my Moto Z (2) using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
My "investment" in the automotive industry isn't doing much to aid my retirement portfolio, but it sure was a lot of fun back when this stuff was cheap, and I sure enjoy what little I still have, or can afford to pick up. I have invested some money in those old songs and the musicians that played them (as well as many songs and musicians that have followed), they have paid off much like my investment in the auto industry. I have never associated income with fun. Income was to pay the bills, and just have a little left over, fun was to enjoy life. The bills are paid for, at least for this month, and there is a little left over. The future will bring what it will. Lets have some fun! Gene
Grumpy and Jere Stahl with his 66 street hemi Belvedere were very close in performance. Jenkins had about a 600 lb. weight advantage. Grump was whooping everyone except Stahl. So back to the 413 and Corvette...it was a Super Stock Max Wedge short ram dual 4 bbl. carburetor Dodge 330. Not intended for street use. The Vette was a street car. Not really a fair comparison. The Dodge won. If the Vette was set up comparably to the Dodge could have been a different outcome. Was probably a good race!
