image.jpg Great conversation guys. I too went with a Ford front end setup up on my Chevy roadster for a variety of reasons and grafted on a set of Model A frame horns up front.
Also, for boxing...I boxed my frame ('30/'31) the entire way with 3/16" which I'm glad I did.

Do you have suicide opening doors on the roadster ?? What hinges are you using.

The bodies for 29--35 chevrolet roadsters were made by HERCULES CAMPBELL and supplied to chevrolet

They are stock hinges Mike and a Denver area hot rodder suicided them back in the early sixties before I bought the body. I've thought more than once about taking them back to stock. It does make getting in/out of the car easier with the tonneau cover though.

@madmike3434 - sorry Mike I didn't see your question. Yes...looks like he re-used the stock hinges. This isn't my picture but this is a shot of the hinges that were used.

35 tub A.jpg 1929---1935 Chevrolet roadster, phaeton , roadster pickup 29-32 all used a hidden hinge system. You could move a metal tab and lift the door off the hinge pins, an interesting design to give you a jeep like look.

The hinges your showing in the picture , are like a ford or a fisher bodied Chevrolet , where the hinges are exposed on the outside. Notice the touring has no visable stock hinge system as does a roadster. Notice on tub how low on door stock door handle is, UUUUUUUUUUGGGGGH !!!

Just interested in what was there, old roadster , lakes style, kool factor of 10

yup those are GM fisher body closed car hinges. Do the job for turning into suicide doors. No wonder they sell well on ebay when they appear.

here is a picture of 1929---1935 Chevrolet OPEN CAR door strikers locks and door hinges. Interesting that the door strikers are actually 1929 or 30 ford **2 door touring** a one year only ford design that Chevrolet used or ford copied just for the one year ????? I got them from a 2 man shop in new England that does ford open car repo parts .
Damn, ford and chevy borrowing from each other ?? whats this world even back then coming too......lmao

@madmike3434 - Great insight Mike. I knew 33/34 roadsters had the hidden hinges but didn't realize it was '29 thru '35 for all open cars. I just figured these were stock 31 roadster hinges but never really looked into it. Thank you and classic case of learn something new everyday.
Man that Phaeton of yours...Holy Cow that is one neat car - that has to be a rare bird for sure!!

its one of 217 the last year Chevrolet produced a phaeton in north America, 1935. I did not build it, bought it 2 years ago from original 1982 builder in Virginia. I have only added traffic light viewer to top of dash so I can see the traffic lights and switched the rear view mirror into a wind up clock mirror.

Needs a new top and the seat moved back 6--8" , but that's a complicated procedure as the seat is part of the door post " b & c posts " system and its fixed. Too far backwards movement and only a skinny will be able to get in the back seat, other than running, jumping and tuck and roll into it. LMAO.....really

Its a conundrum that will get sorted this spring when it comes out of hibernation storage unit.

Was just studying the side shot picture of your car and focusing in on the DUAL TRI-Y HEADERS, that is very trick, twin carbs on tricky looking intake and other stuff. Front axle and spring ??? Steering type. ?? Dash and gauges ?? Steering wheel. Seating and looks like a 34-35 chev standard series radshell and grill. Headlights are the gotta have them guide sealed beams.

How about MORE pictures of your lakes style roadster. That way we will not get anybody moaning about not enough period correct stuff.

that's because your body is MADE BY FISHER , as cabriolet convertibles were, fixed windshield .

True open cars Roadsters and Phaetons that used side curtains windows, the main body constructed by Hercules Campbell for Chevrolet and has opening windshield. Hidden hinge system along with different striker lock and latch. Plus weird low door handle location. As you can see when comparing your cab to my tub.

1933-34 cabriolets were available in the master series but not in the standard series.

I knew none of this stuff when I bought my 35 std roadster in 2012.

@madmike3434 I ended up using a Model A cross member, monoleaf spring with a 4" dropped axle. I bought this car body and frame from a restorer who had it since the 80's and decided the body was too far down the hot rod path to restore so it was perfect for what I wanted to do with it.
It's 292 Chevy 6 with an adapter to run an early style valve cover. Those are early Clifford headers along with the intake both of which they don't make anymore. It's vega cross-steered with a Bell 3 spoke wheel. Dash is pretty simple with some gennie winged SW gauges and not much else. No radio, heater, wipers, turn signals, etc...just a bare bones hot rod.
Standard grill shell like you mentioned - I mocked it up with a '31 Chevy grill shell but it didn't fit the look I was after.
    Here's a few more pictures.

It's a fun little car and I plan to finish it someday but right now I'm having a blast enjoying it as it is.

great pictures........lots to look at and admire. Gas line shows skill to get it right, buick aluminum finned drums are a high light. 2 holley 2 barrels wasn't expecting that. A 292 gmc, blow a 239 ford v8 into the weeds .

The 34-35 standard rad shell suits the car much more than stock 30-31. But it maybe a 33 rad shell if the chrome trim ring is part of the rad shell stamping ???

You could make a pattern out of flat plywood to produce a wooden seat surround from top of the inside aluminum wrapping around. I made mine out of 7/8" thick northern ash in one piece using wallpaper steamers. Better to make out of 1/4" strips and laminated them together in a jig. Gives a bit more finish look to the car and stiffens up the body.

The rumble seat lid on the car is ROADSTER ONLY . The panel above it is not welded shut on either side , nor is the panel below the trunk lid. They are nailed to the substructure wood.

Looks good , maybe or maybe not a few tweeks .

As the commercial used to say " mikie likes it "

  18. I think you are right Mike, the 34-5 shell tapers wider when viewed from the side, the '33 is even.

PAUL, think there is still one on ebay, missing center metal spear, side ones are there, also missing glove box door and lock along with glove box itself, its made repo , but have not seen one offered for a while. I think its overpriced which is why nobody has bid on it. The 34 master produced a lot of cars 600 000 units

The 34 master dash fits all fisher bodys 1933--1935, modified they need to be 1" wider per side for roadster or touring. Actually am doing one now for my roadster > Cut the wood grain top part out using small zip disc with air die grinder. Then made a real walnut wood insert to go thru from behind.. Something I have been planning for 6 months. No pictures yet.

I gave him a 31 Chevy dash for his model A and it fit and looks great. He said he liked the 34 dash with a glovebox. Give that Ford a little class!
    Thanks for the listing!

your right 33-35 chevy dashes fit perfectly into 28--31 fords, I put one into my friends 29 chopped sedan turned into a sedan delivery.

PAUL if a 34 master dash looks too good in a 33-34 ford, might start a custom trend and next thing you know they will be in short expensive supply.

Just keep watching ebay a less expensive one will turn up.

He guys just ordered Summit Racing BluePrint Engines GM 400 C.I.D. 460 HP Dressed Long Block Crate Engines BP4001CTC1 for my new 1934 Chevy Roadster Holden bodied build! Plus ordered TCI 700R4 transmission! Had changed my plan from my 383 SBC Stoker to give my car that old school look. Plus trying to have NO date period of parts when my car was built!
I am doing vintage classic styling, modern updates and killer craftsmanship. I already have custom frame features independent front suspension and Ridetech coilovers at all four corners.
I am looking at the Edelbrock Classic Cast Aluminum Valve Covers 4143 Summit Racing finned with polished aluminum for that vintage 50's look!
Guys any ideas for any better vintage valve covers for my build?
Here are a few pics of my cars start in tear down plus the new valve cover! 50758745_10156558407525033_3361420626244927488_n.jpg 50730768_10156558407950033_3712395264795869184_n.jpg 50067442_10156558407840033_4587817686867640320_n.jpg 50720447_10156558408050033_6407418274451030016_n.jpg IMG_20190118_095300.jpg

    Thanks Six Ball!!
I am leaving the complete rolling frame, drivetrain, wheels all together. My car was total finished restored in 1993.
I will most likely post it as a complete package for sale on Hemmings Online after I recreate all the brackets and geometry needed onto my brand new 1934 Chevy Standard custom frame!
This is a running driving car! Excellent engine, brakes and 3 speed transmission! Just needs a new 6 volt battery and should have the radiator re-cored or replaced! Plus have a brand new NOS Carb and a rebuild kit!
