Larry who?....not sure who or what your referring too....posts get buried so fast on this thread....you stumble or step out to take a breath of air and crap when you get back it takes days to get current again.........easier to just move on and miss out and not get to enjoy viewing someone's post that they took the time to post only to get buried by power posters......

  3. I used to have to watch Lawrence Welk when I spent Saturday nights at my Grandparents house as a kid.

Lawrence started Lawrence Welk Village, just north of Escondido California. It was in a little valley, with an executive golf course. The Saturday night tapings were something else. All the women would fight to be seated at his table. The homes were all prefab. A retirement community!

My mom was from South Dakota and my dad, Minnesota, Welk was from North Dakota so the Lawrence Welk show was never missed (by them), I had to escape to my room and build my model cars or reread my car magazines. I had a crush on the Lennon Sisters so I still saw a fair amount of the show, everybody was happy.

At that time, they did the show at the ABC studio on Prospect in Hollywood. Our barber's shop was near the corner of Prospect and Vermont. Lawrence's son Larry, later a traffic-copter pilot in L.A., used to use that barbershop as well. I remember him parking that '59 Dodge convertible outside. It was purple with a white interior and I really liked it.
