As I spend the afternoon sanding louvers on my roadster rumble lid so I can get some primer on it and get the skin reattached, I'm picturing some outsider staring over my shoulder wondering what can be wrong with this guy that would possess him to take a perfectly good part and fill it full of holes.

Some guys knock little white balls around a field all day. Sanding louvers seems perfectly rational to me.

I just finished doing the same thing! I don't question my sanity but doing this stuff sure makes other people question it!:D

This is what you tell them !!

Some guys collect stamps, tea cups , gamble, drink or whore around.
For the most part us car guys are in the garage tinkering with stuff and trying to avoid getting hurt.
I think we have it right!

Now keep sanding them there louvres !

    Excuse me. What sanity?

The world is crazy. Working on projects are islands away from that
Also a nice way to sort things out
Work, especially on older cars = mental vacations

It's all the krazy things that keep me from working on my cars.

Sanity? I decided to go for a cruise today before spending the rest of it working on the new shop and while I’m cruising up the country road I live on (middle of nowhere) I’m watching a guy with a leaf blower literally chasing a handful of leaves in the middle of a large field that appears to completely devoid of leaves. My only thought was that he needed an old hot rod to keep him busy and not wasting time with yard work (which I absolutely despise).

Sanding louvers is getting work done and time well spent imo!! If my family caught me outside doing something like this guy they’d know I had lost it! Lol Randy

    25¢ worth of philosophy.

  17. As I was sanding the long louvers on the side panels of my Deuce I started questioning my sanity, I have always been a fan of the later 25 louver hoods but all the sanding on both the inside and outside of the side panels I realized I had spent most of the day sanding a total of 100 surfaces.

I remember just how sore and cut up my fingers were after sanding the primer, then I had to turn around and wet sand the paint, I love louvers but hate sanding them. HRP

Not really a fan of louvres unless they're there to be functional, but I hear there are lots of pretty things to look at at the Louvre. Whatever keeps you happy.

Here's the scenario that drives me crazy, you spend 5 days figuring out 4 ways to mount your steering linkage, all the angles, clearances etc, you decide on which of the 4 is the best and build and mount all the brackets, paint etc then the moment of triumph you stand back to admire your work when bam!! Like a thunderbolt a 5th and better way hits you BUT only after finishing your project.

I worry more about the sanity of people with no hobbies or interests. or people who yell at the TV watching sports like they are in the game, when the reality is they are just watching TV. I'd rather watch Gunsmoke or the Rifleman myself.

  21. Actually people without common sense (this is not directed @jmountain) try my sanity. Hot rods and things that go with them are my escape.
